Something Is Killing the Children: A Gridstorm Game is an announced tabletop card game based on the comic series. Tiny Onion and Wayves Creative Co. plan to launch it on Kickstarter in 2027. The announcement describes a grid-based, two-player battle between Hunters and Monsters, but does not yet provide a campaign date, price, or complete rules.

What is Something Is Killing the Children: A Gridstorm Game?

It is a tabletop card battler set in the Slaughterverse, the world of the Something Is Killing the Children comic. The game is described as a one-versus-one contest played on a grid, where card effects and positioning shape play. The announcement calls it the first game set in the Slaughterverse.

BOOM! Studios describes the comic as following monster hunter Erica Slaughter and the Order of St. George. Its series page credits James Tynion IV as writer and Werther Dell’Edera as artist: BOOM! Studios’ series page.

How is the game supposed to work?

The announced setup assigns the players opposing roles. One side plays the Hunters, relying on stealth and maneuvering to save children; the other plays the Monsters, using predatory instincts to capture them from a distance. Each deck is described as containing characters and creatures from the series.

These are broad descriptions, not a published rulebook. Final rules, turn structure, setup details, game length, and the extent of the grid or card interactions have not been provided in the announcement coverage. The format is therefore clear enough to identify as a tactical two-player card game, but not to assess its complexity or how it plays in practice.

Who is making it?

Wayves Creative Co. is designing the game, Werther Dell’Edera is credited with art, and Tiny Onion is credited with card design. Tiny Onion and Wayves also say they intend to develop additional games based on Tiny Onion titles using Wayves’ Gridstorm engine and mechanics.

Eric Harburn, Tiny Onion’s Director of Narrative & Editor-in-Chief, described the motivation behind the project: “In Something is Killing the Children, James and Werther have created an immensely rich universe with iconic characters, monsters, and more; it’s been a longtime goal of ours to bring this world to tabletop gaming, and we’re thrilled to share more about our plans very soon!”

What is the Erica Slaughter trading card?

Comics Beat reported that BOOM! Studios’ Something Is Killing the Children #50 Cover C Blind Bag Variant would include an exclusive Erica Slaughter trading card tied to the forthcoming game. The article gave October 7, 2026, as the issue’s comic-shop date. That date has passed, so availability and remaining stock depend on individual shops; the earlier announcement does not establish that copies are still available.

James Tynion IV discussed the card as part of the blind-bag program before fuller game details were announced: “The Blind Bag program features a treasure trove of amazing cover artwork you could pull, along with a guaranteed trading card for the top secret SIKTC game we’ll be revealing more about very soon.” The quote describes the comic promotion, not the game’s final contents or rules.
