Solar Airship One has not circled the world. Euro Airship describes it as a planned rigid-airship mission, with departure still planned for 2026. The developer says the craft would generate electricity from solar film during the day and use hydrogen fuel cells at night. So “without fuel” means without fossil fuel—not without stored energy.
What is Solar Airship One?
Solar Airship One is a Euro Airship demonstrator designed for a nonstop, west-to-east circumnavigation near the equator. The project’s expedition page describes its goal as “the first non-stop round-the-world flight without fuel.” That is the project’s own description of a planned mission, not a completed or independently verified flight.
The target is more than 40,000 km in about 20 days, at an average altitude of 6,000 m. The project says the route would pass over more than 25 countries, two oceans, and several seas. These are mission targets published by the developer, not measured results.

How would it fly without fossil fuel?
The project calls the airship 100% electric and describes two sources of electricity: solar film in daylight and hydrogen fuel cells at night. During the day, surplus electricity would power electrolysis to produce hydrogen from water. That hydrogen would then be used by the fuel cells to generate electricity after dark.

Hydrogen is therefore part of the energy system, not evidence that the aircraft operates without stored energy. The “without fuel” wording refers to the project’s claim that the mission would not burn fossil fuel. Euro Airship’s technical page explains the proposed system, but the pages cited do not establish that it has been demonstrated in flight.

The large helium volume provides the lighter-than-air lift described by the design. Separate gas envelopes and ballast systems are intended to help manage buoyancy and steering; the published description does not by itself show how those systems will perform under operational conditions.
Is the round-the-world flight confirmed?
No. The expedition page continues to describe a 2026 departure as planned, while Euro Airship’s corporate site says the team is ready to start construction. The cited pages do not confirm that the airship is complete, that flight testing has occurred, or that a departure date is secured. The schedule should be treated as a plan rather than a confirmed launch.

The project’s welcome page names Dorine Bourneton, Michel Tognini, and Michael Lopez-Alegria as expedition pilots. Their participation, like the route and crew plan, is described in the project materials and should not be mistaken for confirmation that the expedition has taken place.
What role do partners have?
Euro Airship’s expedition page displays a broad list of partners and supporters. In a 16 June 2023 announcement, Orange said it would provide a low-orbit satellite communication system for a secure global link between the airship and the ground. That announcement establishes what Orange said it would contribute at that time; it does not confirm the current status of the mission or the communications system.

Could Solar Airship One lead to commercial airships?
Euro Airship presents freight, surveillance, humanitarian aid, and eco-responsible tourism as possible future applications for its airships. It also says Solar Airship One could help demonstrate versions for public and industrial markets. These are company ambitions, not evidence of available aircraft or existing commercial services. The project’s corporate site describes that future vision.
