Yes. SoftBank’s SoftVoice is a call-center service that converts an angry or forceful caller’s voice to sound calmer to the agent in real time. SoftBank says the system adjusts vocal tone and intonation while preserving the caller’s words; it does not make the complaint polite or solve the underlying problem. What SoftVoice does—and what it does not do
SoftVoice is designed for call-center operators, not as a consumer voice changer. During a call, an operator can toggle voice conversion in an app. SoftBank says the service changes how the caller’s voice is perceived by adjusting tone and intonation, while leaving the spoken content unchanged. The agent should still hear what the caller is saying, but in a less forceful-sounding voice.
That distinction matters: SoftVoice is not described as a tool that edits the caller’s words, makes them courteous, or resolves a service issue. Its stated purpose is to reduce the psychological burden on operators who receive aggressive calls. SoftBank also lists selectable voice patterns, warning messages, noise reduction, and call recording among the service features; the launch announcement does not independently validate how these work in routine deployments. SoftBank reported an evaluation involving about 300 people in which the average anger-related rating was 6.5 for audio without conversion and 4.2 for converted audio. The company described this as a reduction of more than 30%. This is a company-reported measure of perceived anger in call audio—not a demonstration that callers became less angry or that deployed use improved employee wellbeing, customer satisfaction, call quality, or business results.

No independent study of SoftVoice’s effects in routine customer-service use was established in the sources reviewed. From “Emotion Canceling” project to launched service
SoftBank introduced the underlying project in 2024 under the name “Emotion Canceling.” At that point it was in research and development, with commercialization expected during fiscal 2025. The current service is called SoftVoice, and SoftBank announced its launch on February 2, 2026. Older reports describe the project’s development plans, not the service’s present status. Trial availability and practical questions for call centers
SoftBank’s launch announcement says a free trial is available and expires two months after application; continued use requires a formal application. Trial conditions can change, so organizations should confirm current terms directly with SoftBank before planning a rollout. The announcement does not establish full territorial availability or provide a complete account of privacy, retention, consent, or escalation controls.

Before adopting any call-audio processing tool, a call center should establish how recording and conversion are disclosed, what audio or derived data is retained, who can activate conversion, and how staff handle threats or urgent complaints. Those are operational questions to verify with the vendor and the organization’s own compliance teams, not details established by the announcement.

How SoftVoice differs from other emotion-aware customer-service AI
SoftVoice’s described function is caller-tone conversion. Other contact-center tools may instead detect emotional cues from voice or text and present insights or guidance to an agent. NiCE describes that adjacent category, but this does not establish that its tools convert a caller’s voice in the same way as SoftVoice. NiCE: How Can AI Detect Emotion in Voice Interactions?
Research on humanlike chatbots is also about a different intervention. A 2022 Journal of Marketing article reported five studies, including analysis of nearly 35,000 customer-service chatbot sessions, and found that humanlike chatbot interactions could worsen satisfaction and related evaluations among angry customers in some conditions. Effective problem resolution and lower expectations altered those outcomes. That research does not test voice conversion, worker stress, or SoftVoice, so it cannot establish whether changing a caller’s vocal tone helps agents or customers.
