Socket announced a $40 million Series B on October 22, 2024, led by Abstract Ventures. The company said the round brought its total funding to $65 million. In May 2026, Socket announced a subsequent $60 million Series C at a $1 billion valuation.
Who invested in Socket’s 2024 Series B?
Abstract Ventures led the round. Elad Gil and Andreessen Horowitz also participated, along with angel investors Bret Taylor, Phil Venables, Scott Johnston, Christina Cacioppo, Ann Mather, and Tobias Lütke. Socket said it planned to use the proceeds to expand its engineering, product, and design teams.
At the time, founder and CEO Feross Aboukhadijeh described the company’s approach this way: “We’re not just catching vulnerabilities — we’re detecting and blocking malicious threats in real time.” That is Socket’s characterization of its product, not independent evidence that it detects every threat.
What does Socket’s software do?
Socket’s software is designed to identify risky behavior in open-source packages used by organizations. Its October 2024 announcement cited backdoors, typo-squatting, and obfuscated code as examples of malicious behavior. Socket also said its product supported six programming languages and included license enforcement and reachability analysis.

TechCrunch’s contemporaneous account described a scanner that checked open-source components for malicious activity and alerted developers when dependencies or packages were added or updated. It also reported optional open-source license checks and integration into developer workflows. These descriptions reflect the product around the time of the Series B, not a complete current feature list.

How Socket described its product in 2026
In its Series C announcement, Socket said Socket Firewall blocks malicious packages at install time. The company also described reachability analysis for vulnerability triage and Certified Patches for remediation. It said it planned to extend coverage to browser extensions, code editor extensions, MCP servers, and AI tools; those are company-described plans, not a statement that every planned capability was already available.
