The Snapdragon X Plus X1P-42-100 is Qualcomm’s eight-core chip for Windows-on-Arm laptops, but there is no single benchmark score that describes every laptop using it. Performance depends on the specific computer, its power and cooling settings, memory configuration, and the test being run. Qualcomm’s published comparisons offer useful context, while independent results are tied to individual systems. For buyers, compare complete laptops—not the processor name alone.
Which Snapdragon X Plus is being benchmarked?
“Snapdragon X Plus” refers to a family, not one fixed configuration. This article focuses on the first-generation Snapdragon X Plus X1P-42-100, the eight-core variant that forms the clearest fit for this benchmark topic. Qualcomm lists it with CPU frequencies up to 3.4 GHz, 30 MB of cache, Adreno X1-45 graphics, a 45 TOPS NPU, and support for LPDDR5x memory. Qualcomm’s product listings also include other first-generation X Plus chips and the later Snapdragon X2 Plus family, so confirm the full model number when comparing specifications or results. What do the published benchmarks show?
Qualcomm’s 2024 comparisons
Qualcomm’s eight-core overview deck reports CPU testing with Geekbench 6.2 on Windows 11 and graphics testing with 3DMark Wildlife Extreme using Vulkan. The deck says the runs were conducted in July and August 2024. It identifies a Qualcomm reference design for some comparisons and named competitor laptops for others. These are Qualcomm’s own results under its stated test conditions, not a guarantee that every retail X1P-42-100 laptop will achieve the same scores. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Plus 8-core overview deck

The distinction matters when reading a headline result: a reference design and a commercially sold laptop may have different cooling, power limits, memory, and firmware. The deck’s benchmark versions and operating system are also part of the claim; scores from another version or setup are not automatically comparable.

Independent laptop results
Notebookcheck’s processor database collects benchmark entries for multiple complete systems equipped with the X1P-42-100. Its listings include different machines and, in some cases, different power modes and memory configurations. For example, entries for the Surface Laptop 13 identify 45 W / 35 W figures, while Surface Pro 12 entries identify 35 W / 15 W figures. Those figures describe the listed systems and modes; they should not be treated as one universal power setting for the processor. Notebookcheck’s X1P-42-100 results and specifications
Use the database to see how results vary by laptop, but compare like with like: benchmark version and workload, selected power mode, sustained cooling behavior, and memory configuration. For graphics results, also check the workload and driver state. The available listings do not provide one harmonized retail test across every named laptop, so an overall ranking based on mixed entries can be misleading.
How capable is the X1P-42-100’s graphics?
The X1P-42-100 pairs its CPU with Adreno X1-45 graphics. Independent Notebookcheck analysis identifies the X1-45 as a lower graphics tier than the Adreno X1-85 used in other Snapdragon X chips. That is useful context, but it does not establish how every game or graphics workload will run on every laptop: performance remains specific to the system and tested conditions. Qualcomm’s deck includes a Vulkan-based 3DMark Wildlife Extreme comparison, but that is one graphics workload. It should not be read as a prediction for all games, creative applications, or GPU-accelerated tasks.
What does the 45 TOPS NPU mean for Windows AI?
Qualcomm specifies a 45 TOPS NPU for the X1P-42-100. Microsoft says many new Windows AI features require an NPU capable of 40+ TOPS, which puts this chip’s stated NPU capability above that threshold. The threshold is a capability requirement for many features, not proof of a CPU or GPU benchmark advantage, nor confirmation that every AI feature is available on every computer. Availability can depend on the device and feature. Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC developer guidance
Which laptops use the X1P-42-100?
The chip is sold as part of complete Windows laptops and 2-in-1 computers, rather than as a standalone consumer upgrade. Notebookcheck’s database includes systems such as the HP OmniBook 5 14, Surface Laptop 13, Acer Swift Go 14 AI, and Lenovo IdeaPad 5 2-in-1. HP’s datasheet confirms the OmniBook 5 14 as a configuration path for this processor; check the exact regional product listing because a laptop family can be offered with different processors. How should you choose between Snapdragon X Plus laptops?
Start with the exact processor SKU, then judge the whole computer against your workload. A benchmark score is meaningful only when its test conditions resemble the way you plan to use the laptop.
- Match the benchmark. Check the benchmark name and version, workload, operating system, and whether the result is from Qualcomm’s reference design or a retail laptop.
- Check the laptop’s operating mode. Power profile and cooling can affect sustained performance; do not assume a short run predicts long workloads.
- Compare memory configurations. The processor supports LPDDR5x, but individual laptops may differ in memory configuration.
- Evaluate graphics in context. Look for results in the applications or games you care about, rather than relying on one synthetic graphics test.
- Compare the rest of the device. Battery runtime, display, ports, weight, and price belong to the laptop, not the SoC, and should factor into the purchase decision.
For example, a Qualcomm reference-design score can help establish the company’s stated comparison, but it cannot tell you whether a particular OmniBook or Surface model is the better purchase. For that, use results for the exact retail laptop and weigh them alongside its screen, portability, battery behavior, ports, and price.
