The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is Qualcomm’s 2022 premium mobile platform, built on a 4 nm process and combining a Kryo CPU, Adreno GPU, Hexagon AI processor, Spectra image processor, X65 5G modem, and FastConnect 6900 connectivity. Its headline speeds describe platform capabilities, not guaranteed performance in every phone: clock speed, cooling, software, and other device choices affect real-world results.
Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 specifications
Qualcomm brands the platform “Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1”; “Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1” is the same name written out. The specifications below describe capabilities Qualcomm lists for the platform. A phone maker may implement only some of them, so check the exact handset’s specifications for its configuration.

| Process technology | 4 nm, according to Qualcomm’s product brief. |
| CPU | 64-bit Qualcomm Kryo CPU. Qualcomm lists versions with maximum clock speeds of up to 3.2 GHz and 3 GHz; the phone’s implementation determines which applies. See Qualcomm’s platform page and product brief. |
| GPU | Qualcomm Adreno GPU. Listed graphics API support includes OpenGL ES 3.2, OpenCL 2.0 FP, and Vulkan 1.1, according to the product brief. |
| 5G modem | Snapdragon X65 5G Modem-RF System; Qualcomm lists peak download capability up to 10 Gbps. This is a theoretical platform maximum, not an expected everyday speed. See the platform page and product brief. |
| Wi-Fi | FastConnect 6900 with Wi-Fi 6E support and a listed peak speed up to 3.6 Gbps. The phone, router, network, and environment affect actual capability. See Qualcomm’s platform page. |
| Memory | LP-DDR5 support up to 3200 MHz and memory density up to 16 GB, as listed in Qualcomm’s product brief. These are platform limits, not a promise of the RAM configuration in a particular phone. |
| On-device display | Support up to 4K at 60 Hz or QHD+ at 144 Hz, according to Qualcomm’s product brief. The actual screen is selected by the phone maker. |
| Imaging | Triple 18-bit Spectra ISP with simultaneous triple capture, as described in the Qualcomm platform page and product brief. Camera sensors, lenses, and software shape the resulting photos and video. |
What the benchmark results show
One cited, specific comparison offers a useful point of reference: Android Authority’s 2022 Geekbench 5 test of reference models reported 6.4% higher single-core and 12.3% higher multi-core results for Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 than for Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. These percentages apply to that comparison, not to every retail phone or every benchmark. See Android Authority’s benchmark comparison.
There is no single score that describes how every phone with this chip will perform. A result is meaningful only alongside the benchmark and version, the tested phone, and its test conditions. Retail-device results can vary with cooling design, software, power mode, memory configuration, and workload. The cited comparison does not establish a standardized cross-device ranking for sustained gaming or thermal behavior.

Qualcomm’s claimed gains over Snapdragon 8 Gen 1
Qualcomm’s generational comparison says the 8+ Gen 1 offers up to 10% better CPU performance and up to 30% better CPU power efficiency, alongside a 10% increase in GPU clock speed and up to 30% GPU power reduction. These are Qualcomm’s own platform claims, not independent measurements for every handset. The company’s platform page and 2022 announcement provide the comparison.
Which phones use Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1?
Qualcomm’s August 10, 2022 announcement names the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 and Galaxy Z Flip4 as global devices powered by Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. The announcement is available at Qualcomm’s phone announcement. For any purchase decision, verify the exact model and regional SKU; current availability, condition, and price are separate questions from the processor specification.

- Benchmark evidence: Match the benchmark version and test conditions, and note which device produced the result.
- Long workloads: Look for sustained-performance and thermal testing rather than relying on a short peak score.
- Battery: Consider battery capacity and measured runtime, not processor efficiency claims alone.
- Configuration and display: Check RAM, storage, screen resolution, and refresh rate on the exact model.
- Cameras and connectivity: Compare the phone’s camera hardware and software, plus its network variant; ISP and modem platform capabilities do not determine the finished implementation.
