Published benchmark data gives the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 the stronger showing in multi-core CPU and graphics-oriented tests, while its Geekbench 6 single-core average is relatively close to Tensor G6’s. That is a directional comparison, not a controlled chip-versus-chip verdict: the available aggregate samples are small for Tensor G6 and come from different phones and test conditions.

Benchmark averages and core details in this table are from NanoReview’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 vs Tensor G6 comparison, accessed in 2026. Qualcomm’s connectivity specifications come from its Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 product page. The sample counts are part of the result: these are submitted-device averages, not a same-phone lab test.
What the CPU benchmarks say
Single-core: close averages
NanoReview reports Geekbench 6 single-core averages of 2,833 for Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and 2,755 for Tensor G6, based on 20 and 6 tests respectively. The difference is modest within this dataset. It does not establish that every Snapdragon phone will feel faster in tasks that rely heavily on one CPU core; handset software, cooling, and configuration also matter.
Multi-core: a clearer Snapdragon lead
In the same aggregate, Snapdragon averages 9,119 in Geekbench 6 multi-core versus 7,563 for Tensor G6, again with 20 versus 6 tests. That supports a multi-core advantage for Snapdragon in the published data, but the limited Tensor sample makes the size of the gap less certain than a matched set of devices would.

Graphics results favor Snapdragon, but do not predict every game
NanoReview’s Geekbench 6 GPU compute average is 21,241 for Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and 6,216 for Tensor G6, based on 10 and 3 tests. This is a strong graphics-compute result for Snapdragon in that dataset, not a direct measure of frame rates, power draw, or how long either chip can sustain a game.
The same comparison lists Adreno 829 for Snapdragon and PowerVR CXTP-48-1536 for Tensor. However, Beebom’s comparison uses a different Snapdragon GPU designation, Adreno 840. The cited material does not reconcile that discrepancy, so a single GPU model designation should not be treated as settled here. NanoReview also has no Tensor result for some 3DMark tests; missing results mean no reported score, not zero performance.

How much confidence should you put in the benchmark gap?
The sample sizes vary by test and are consistently smaller for Tensor G6: for example, NanoReview lists 91 Snapdragon and 4 Tensor results for AnTuTu 11. Its aggregate scores are useful for identifying a pattern, but they are neither a controlled trial nor a guarantee of what a specific phone will achieve.

Beebom reports 2,808 single-core and 9,198 multi-core for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 in a OnePlus 15R. These are results from different phones and review methodologies, so they should not be read as a head-to-head test.

Phone-level results can shift with cooling design, firmware, memory configuration, drivers, and software. A benchmark score from one handset is evidence about that handset under its review conditions, not every device built around the same processor.
Connectivity, AI, and everyday use
Connectivity figures are capability claims
Qualcomm lists an Oryon CPU, Adreno graphics, Hexagon processor features, and an X80 5G Modem-RF for Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. It gives peak modem rates of 10 Gbps download and 3.5 Gbps upload and describes Wi-Fi 7 support through FastConnect 7900. These are platform specifications; actual speeds, coverage, and availability depend on the phone implementation, network, region, and conditions.

AI hardware does not settle AI performance
References to a TPU, NPU, Hexagon features, or other AI hardware do not by themselves show which chip produces better results in a particular app. The cited sources do not provide matched real-world AI task tests for these processors. App support, on-device models, software integration, and the phone maker’s implementation are all relevant.

The available benchmark and review figures do not establish a controlled comparison of sustained gaming performance, temperatures, or battery life. Peak graphics scores cannot answer whether a phone throttles during a long session or consumes more power doing it. For those decisions, look for tests of the exact phone models you are considering, with comparable workloads and stated conditions.

Which chipset should you choose?
- For the stronger published multi-core and graphics-compute results: Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 leads in NanoReview’s reported averages, with the caveat that its Tensor samples are fewer.
- For single-core benchmark performance: the reported Geekbench 6 averages are relatively close, and the available data does not support a broad claim that every Snapdragon phone will be faster in everyday use.
- For gaming, battery, heat, cameras, or connectivity: compare complete phone reviews and specifications. The chipset comparison does not establish those outcomes across devices.
For launch context, Qualcomm’s November 2025 announcement describes the platform from the manufacturer’s perspective. The performance comparison above relies on attributed aggregate and handset-review results rather than those vendor claims.
