Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 leads Tensor G4 in the published aggregate benchmarks cited here, with the clearest reported advantage in GPU-heavy tests. That does not mean every Snapdragon-powered phone will be faster in every task: the results come from different publisher tests and handset implementations, not a controlled head-to-head test in identical phones. Tensor G4, by contrast, is the processor in Google’s Pixel 9 family, where Google emphasizes its Pixel AI experiences and everyday use.
How the two chips differ
These processors reflect different product priorities. Qualcomm’s product brief describes Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 as a high-end mobile platform with a Kryo CPU, Adreno GPU, Hexagon AI hardware and Snapdragon X75 5G Modem-RF System. Its brief lists one prime CPU core running at up to 3.4 GHz. Feature support can vary by handset because manufacturers do not necessarily implement every platform capability identically. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 product brief
Google uses Tensor G4 in the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Google says Tensor G4 was designed with Google DeepMind and optimized to run its AI models. That describes Google’s design intent; it is not independent evidence that Tensor G4 outperforms Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 on AI workloads. Google’s Pixel 9 announcement

The comparison pages below both report higher AnTuTu totals for Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, but the numbers differ between publishers. Treat them as results from those publications and their test setups, not fixed specifications of the chips. They should not be averaged together or read as results from a single matched test.

The 91mobiles page’s access year is not the benchmark’s test year. Its figures are publisher-reported data, and should not be described as measurements made in 2026. Both comparisons point in the same direction on aggregate performance, but different phones, cooling, firmware, benchmark versions and test conditions can change scores. The available figures do not establish one universal percentage advantage across workloads.
GPU performance and sustained loads
The cited results show the largest gap in GPU-heavy measurements. That can matter for graphics-intensive games, rendering and other workloads that keep the graphics processor busy. A benchmark score alone, however, does not predict the frame rate or smoothness of every game on every phone; display resolution, game settings, software and handset cooling also affect the experience.

Peak speed is not the same as sustained speed. In Beebom’s 2024 3DMark Wild Life Extreme stress test, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 recorded a best loop score of 5,136 and a lowest loop score of 2,697, for 52.9% stability. Tensor G4 recorded a best loop score of 2,590 and a lowest loop score of 1,525, for 58.9% stability. These are results from Beebom’s test setup. Snapdragon’s higher scores indicate stronger results in that test, while the stability percentages show that peak performance and retention across loops are separate measures. CPU, AI, and everyday use
CPU performance
The 91mobiles figures show only a modest difference between the two chips’ reported CPU sub-scores compared with the much larger GPU-score gap. That is one publisher’s result, not a controlled CPU shootout. CPU performance also depends on whether a task uses one core or several, and on the phone’s software and thermal behavior.

AI features
Google positions Tensor G4 around Pixel AI, including Gemini Nano multimodality and on-device experiences. Google also reports that Tensor G4 enables average web browsing 20% faster and app launches 17% faster than the prior Pixel generation. Those are Google’s comparisons against earlier Pixels, not independent tests against Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The available evidence does not establish a general Tensor G4 advantage for AI workloads; a useful comparison would need to test the same AI tasks under controlled conditions.
Responsiveness in a complete phone
Google’s 20% browsing and 17% app-launch figures are vendor-reported improvements over the previous Pixel generation; they do not establish that Tensor G4 is faster than Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. In ordinary use, the chip is only one part of responsiveness: software, memory, storage and the individual app all contribute. A comparison between specific phones is more useful than assuming every device with a given processor behaves identically.

Can Geekbench settle the comparison?
Not by itself. Geekbench’s Android device pages aggregate user-submitted results, so they are device listings rather than controlled chip tests. The Pixel 9 page identifies the phone as a Tensor G4 device, and Geekbench’s mobile table includes Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 phones. Results can vary with handset, software, benchmark version and testing conditions; check the current entries before quoting scores, and do not present live aggregates as stable chipset specifications. Which should guide your phone choice?
Choose between actual phone models, not processor names in isolation. Snapdragon 8 Gen 3’s stronger results in the cited aggregate and graphics benchmarks are relevant if gaming or graphics performance is a priority. Tensor G4 makes sense in the context of a Pixel 9 phone and its Google software and AI features. Neither set of evidence settles questions such as battery life, temperatures during your games, camera quality or overall value for a specific handset.

These are historical launch prices, not current prices; current price and availability depend on market, model and retailer. Google listed 12 GB of RAM for Pixel 9 and 16 GB for Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL. Pixel 9 Pro Fold has a distinct configuration, so check its exact specifications rather than applying those memory figures to the whole family. Google’s Pixel 9 launch details
Quick Recap
- For gaming and graphics-heavy work, give weight to handset-specific GPU tests and longer stress tests, not just peak scores.
- For Pixel software and Google’s on-device AI features, assess the actual Pixel model and supported features you plan to use.
- For a purchase decision, compare the specific phones’ screens, cameras, battery behavior, software support and current prices alongside their processors.
