There is no verified, matched benchmark comparison here that establishes whether Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 or Google Tensor G6 is faster. Qualcomm publishes detailed Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 specifications, while Google’s Tensor G6 figures describe improvements over the Pixel 10 generation—not a direct comparison with Snapdragon. The most useful comparison is therefore what each maker has actually disclosed, and what remains unknown.
At a glance: what is—and isn’t—comparable

What Google’s Tensor G6 performance claims mean
Google reports that Tensor G6 enables 25% faster web browsing and 15% quicker app launches, with 50% more TPU compute, in comparisons against the Pixel 10 generation described by Google. Google also says on-device AI tasks can be processed up to 3.5 times faster while using up to 3.5 times less energy in its stated comparison.
These are manufacturer-reported generational figures, not independent test results and not measurements against Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The “up to” qualifier applies to both AI claims; it should not be read as a typical result for every task. Google positions Tensor G6 around Pixel’s on-device AI, camera processing, and integrated device features. Those product priorities do not, by themselves, establish a general CPU, GPU, or gaming lead.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 specifications in context
CPU and platform variants
Qualcomm’s product brief lists an eight-core arrangement: one prime core up to 3.36 GHz, four performance cores up to 2.8 GHz, and three efficiency cores up to 2.0 GHz. Qualcomm’s product page also identifies an available 3.19 GHz platform version and cautions that actual device CPU speed is determined by the phone maker. A headline clock rate alone therefore does not specify how a retail phone will behave.
Graphics, AI, and connectivity
Qualcomm identifies an Adreno GPU and lists support for Vulkan 1.3, OpenGL ES 3.2, OpenCL 2.0 FP, and hardware ray tracing. Its Hexagon AI specifications include tensor acceleration, micro-tile inferencing, and several supported numeric formats. For connectivity, Qualcomm lists the Snapdragon X70 modem, peak 5G download capability up to 10 Gbps, and Wi-Fi 7 through FastConnect 7800. Phone design, supported bands, regional variants, and network conditions determine what users can actually access.

A valid head-to-head requires results from identified retail phones, using the same benchmark version and documented test conditions. No such matched Tensor G6 versus Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 results are established by the cited sources. Google’s Pixel-generation claims cannot be converted into scores against Qualcomm, and the processors’ vendor-specific AI descriptions are not a shared unit of measurement.

Even when independent scores become available, the result should be interpreted by workload rather than reduced to one number. Phone cooling, firmware, power limits, and test conditions can change measured performance, especially over sustained workloads. A useful comparison should report CPU single-core and multi-core results separately from GPU, AI, and sustained performance, and identify the exact phone, software build, benchmark version, power mode, cooling conditions, and whether scores are single runs or aggregates.

These are platforms inside phones, not standalone products that can be swapped into a device. Compare the actual models you can buy, with attention to the tasks and features you care about:

- 6.8" Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate, up to ~1750 nits brightness, HDR10+ support, and ultra-smooth responsiveness for gaming and scrolling.
- For Pixel-specific AI and camera features: Tensor G6 is the chip Google identifies for Pixel 11, and Google frames its design around on-device AI, camera processing, and integrated Pixel features. Check the particular Pixel model’s feature list and regional availability.
- For gaming or graphics: Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has published Adreno graphics capabilities, but that specification alone does not prove it will outperform Tensor G6 in a particular game. Look for same-game, sustained tests on the exact phones.
- For cellular and Wi-Fi: Snapdragon’s platform specifications are detailed, but supported bands and implementation vary by phone and market. Check each handset’s specifications rather than assuming every platform capability is enabled.
- For everyday speed: Google’s browsing and app-launch claims compare Pixel generations, not these two chips directly. Retail-phone testing and software support are more relevant than comparing those claims with a clock speed.
Google’s announcement says Pixel 11 phones became available and identifies Tensor G6 as their chip; availability and configurations can depend on market. See Google’s Pixel 11 announcement and Google’s Pixel 11 availability information.
