The Snapdragon 8 Elite is Qualcomm’s 2024 flagship mobile platform, built around a second-generation custom Oryon CPU, an Adreno GPU and a Hexagon NPU. Qualcomm lists a prime CPU core up to 4.47 GHz, but that speed—and the platform’s other headline figures—does not guarantee what any particular phone delivers. For a useful comparison, separate platform specifications and manufacturer claims from benchmarks measured on named devices.
What is the Snapdragon 8 Elite?
Announced on October 21, 2024, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform was Qualcomm’s first mobile platform with its second-generation Oryon CPU. Qualcomm’s product brief identifies part numbers SM8750-AB and SM8750-AC. This is the 2024 platform, not the later Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 or Gen 6. Qualcomm’s launch announcement and product brief (Rev D) describe the platform and its capabilities.
Snapdragon 8 Elite specifications
The figures below come from Qualcomm’s product brief. They describe what the platform supports; handset makers choose which capabilities to implement, and the final phone’s hardware and software influence performance.

All specifications in this table are from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite product brief, Rev D. They are platform capabilities; OEM implementation, cooling, firmware and regional variants can change what a finished phone offers.

What Qualcomm’s performance claims say—and do not say
Qualcomm compares the platform with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in its Rev D product brief. The company claims a 45% CPU performance improvement, 44% better CPU power efficiency, a 45% faster Hexagon NPU and 40% greater GPU power efficiency. These are manufacturer comparisons, not independent measurements applicable to every phone. Qualcomm cautions that results vary with OEM implementation and other factors. Snapdragon 8 Elite benchmark: Geekbench scores in context
Geekbench single-core results help illustrate short, bursty CPU workloads; multi-core results indicate performance in parallel workloads. They do not, on their own, establish sustained gaming performance, battery life or the overall experience of a phone.

These scores are results from the named devices, not a controlled comparison of chip silicon alone: the Gen 5 result came from a reference device with different hardware and configuration. A June 26, 2026 arXiv preprint by Murthy and colleagues evaluates FastVLM-0.5B on SM8750, the Snapdragon 8 Elite platform. In that specific study, the authors report 1.64× prefill speedup and 1.18× decode speedup for NPU execution versus their CPU baseline, along with 20–45× vision-encoder speedups across their encoder measurements. Those results are bounded by the model, runtime, workloads and measurement setup; they do not establish that all AI tasks, apps or Snapdragon 8 Elite phones will see comparable gains. How to use these numbers when choosing a phone
A chipset is only one part of a handset. When comparing two Snapdragon 8 Elite phones—or comparing one with another platform—check the exact model and regional variant, then assess the device itself:
- Compare benchmark results from the same benchmark version and, where possible, the exact handset configurations you are considering.
- Look for sustained performance and thermal behavior, not just a short CPU score; cooling and firmware affect what a phone can maintain.
- Compare price, RAM and storage configuration, display, battery and camera alongside chipset performance.
- Check the manufacturer’s specifications for your region. A platform capability may be absent or configured differently in a particular model.
Qualcomm’s October 2024 launch announcement named OEMs expected to launch Snapdragon 8 Elite devices, but it is not a current, region-by-region phone catalog. Confirm the exact model and processor variant with the phone maker before buying.
