The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is the newer flagship platform, and Qualcomm lists it with a higher maximum CPU clock and a smaller manufacturing process than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. In 91mobiles’ published AnTuTu comparison, its tested Elite Gen 5 phone also scored higher. Those figures describe specific devices, however—not a guaranteed uplift in every phone or task. The chip name is only one part of a buying decision; cooling, battery, software, and the rest of the handset matter too.
How the specifications compare
Qualcomm’s series comparison lists the Elite Gen 5 as a 3 nm platform with a CPU clock speed up to 4.74 GHz, while the 8 Gen 3 is listed at 4 nm and up to 3.4 GHz. The listed clock ceilings are platform specifications, not promises that every phone will run at those frequencies continuously. Qualcomm advises checking the individual phone maker’s specifications for device capabilities.
| Specification | Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 | Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 |
|---|---|---|
| Process node | 3 nm, per Qualcomm’s series listing | 4 nm, per Qualcomm’s series listing |
| Maximum listed CPU clock | Up to 4.74 GHz, per Qualcomm | Up to 3.4 GHz, per Qualcomm |
| 5G modem-RF system | Qualcomm X85 5G Modem-RF, per Qualcomm | Snapdragon X75 5G Modem-RF, per Qualcomm |

Geekbench’s live Android tables likewise attach results to individual phone models, rather than presenting one universal score for each chip. At the time the tables were checked, listed Elite Gen 5 phones included the OnePlus 15, vivo iQOO 15, and Honor Magic8 Pro; Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 examples included the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold6. Scores vary by phone and benchmark category. These entries are not a controlled head-to-head test with identical cooling, software, memory, and power limits. Why benchmark scores do not predict every phone’s performance
A benchmark measures a particular workload on a particular handset under its test conditions. Phone makers can tune performance differently, and the cooling system, power limits, software, and memory configuration can all affect results. A short benchmark run also does not establish how well a phone performs during a long gaming session, when heat and power behavior can change performance.
Recommended Free Tools
- CPU: Compare scores from the same benchmark version and, where possible, exact handset models. Do not treat a score from one model as the score of every phone using that platform.
- GPU and gaming: Look for device-specific graphics tests and sustained gaming measurements, including heat and frame-rate behavior. The published figures cited above do not establish long-duration gaming performance.
- Battery and efficiency: A process-node listing alone cannot tell you how long a phone will last. Battery capacity, screen, software, and device tuning also affect battery life; the cited comparison is not a matched battery test.
Which platform should guide your phone choice?
If two phones are otherwise comparable, the Elite Gen 5’s newer flagship positioning, higher listed clock ceiling, and stronger result in 91mobiles’ cited AnTuTu examples make it the more promising choice for buyers prioritizing peak performance. But choosing a phone solely by its processor name or one benchmark total can miss meaningful differences between handsets.

Compare the specific models you can buy in your region. Check their price, cooling, battery capacity, display, camera system, and software support, then look for benchmark and gaming results for those exact phones. For connectivity, camera, and AI features, confirm the handset maker’s specifications: a platform capability does not establish that every manufacturer enables or implements it identically.
