The Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 is the newer chip and the stronger CPU performer in the benchmark results available so far. Both independent comparisons report higher CPU-oriented scores for it. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 holds the GPU lead in both of those comparisons, and its published platform ceilings for display, charging and modem are higher on paper. Benchmark scores describe the handsets and test versions each site used, not every phone built on either chip, so the device you buy matters as much as the processor inside it.

Specifications side by side

Qualcomm’s published product briefs for each chip list the following platform capabilities. A brief sets out the maximum a chip supports. The phone manufacturer decides what is actually built into a handset.

Area Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 What the difference means
CPU layout 1 prime core up to 2.63 GHz; 3 performance cores up to 2.4 GHz; 4 efficiency cores up to 1.8 GHz 1 prime core up to 2.7 GHz; 3 performance cores up to 2.4 GHz; 4 efficiency cores up to 1.8 GHz Same core arrangement; only the prime-core ceiling differs
Process 4 nm 4 nm Same stated process node in both briefs
Memory and storage Up to 16 GB; LPDDR5 up to 3200 MHz or LPDDR4X up to 2133 MHz; UFS 3.1 Up to 16 GB; LPDDR5 up to 3200 MHz or LPDDR4X up to 2133 MHz; UFS 3.1 Identical ceilings; the phone sets the RAM and storage actually fitted
Graphics Adreno GPU; Vulkan 1.3; HDR gaming support Adreno GPU; Vulkan 1.3; HDR gaming support; selected Snapdragon Elite Gaming features The 7s Gen 4 brief adds gaming features, which the brief does not benchmark
On-device display Up to 4K at 60 Hz; WFHD+ at 168 Hz; WQHD+ at 120 Hz Up to WFHD+ (1300×2900) at 144 Hz The 7 Gen 3 brief lists higher-resolution options; the panel in each phone decides
Camera and video Photo capture up to 200 MP; 4K HDR video up to 60 FPS Photo capture up to 200 MP; 4K HDR video at 30 FPS The 7 Gen 3 brief lists the higher 4K frame rate; sensors and processing are set by each OEM
Modem Snapdragon X63; peak downlink up to 5 Gbps Snapdragon 5G Modem-RF System; peak downlink up to 2.9 Gbps Peak figures are theoretical maximums, not network speeds
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth FastConnect 6700; Wi-Fi 6E and 6; Bluetooth 5.4 FastConnect connectivity (model not named in the brief); Wi-Fi 6E and 6; Bluetooth 5.4 Both list modern connectivity; regional band support depends on the handset
Charging Quick Charge 5 Quick Charge 4+ Charging speed depends on the phone’s charging circuit and the charger supplied

CPU layout: a small clock advantage

Both chips use the same tiered design: one prime core, three performance cores and four efficiency cores. The only CPU specification that differs is the prime-core ceiling, which is 2.63 GHz on the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 and 2.7 GHz on the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4. That is a 70 MHz gap, roughly 2.7 percent. It is a maximum clock for a single core, not a sustained speed. How long a phone holds that peak depends on its cooling and power limits, which the chip specification does not establish.

Spec-sheet differences that matter in a phone

Several differences on the spec sheet change how a phone behaves day to day, even though they do not affect benchmark rankings.

  • REDUCE THE NOISE. REVEAL THE MAGIC: AI Camera with Audio Eraser lets you capture vibrant videos in low light and minimize unwanted noises so you can relive your favorite moments with fewer distractions.³
  • BRING OUT THE BEST IN EVERY FACE: Capture every portrait with clarity and confidence on the Galaxy S25+ Series. The advanced portrait features adjust skin tones and preserve natural textures, giving every shot a polished, professional look.
  • MORE POWER TO YOU: Reimagine what’s possible with the Galaxy S25+, featuring our most powerful processor yet. Effortlessly translate your calls, slow down a video, or edit your photos without skipping a beat.
  • Display: The 7 Gen 3 brief lists higher resolution and refresh-rate options, including 168 Hz at WFHD+. The 7s Gen 4 brief lists 144 Hz at WFHD+ as its top on-device option. A phone’s panel determines which of these a buyer receives.
  • Charging: Quick Charge 5 on the 7 Gen 3 is the faster listed standard. Whether a phone reaches that speed depends on its charging hardware and the charger in the box.
  • Modem: The 7 Gen 3’s Snapdragon X63 lists a higher peak downlink. Real-world speed depends on carrier, band support and signal conditions, not the peak figure.
  • Video: The 7 Gen 3 brief lists 4K HDR capture at 60 FPS, against 30 FPS for the 7s Gen 4. This matters only if you record in 4K HDR.

Qualcomm’s 7s Gen 4 brief states that comparisons depend on how the manufacturer implements the chip, and that caveat applies to both products.

Benchmark results

Two independent sites have published comparisons of these chips. They use different tests, different versions and different sample sizes, so the two sets of numbers should be read separately rather than merged.

NanoReview: AnTuTu 11 and Geekbench 6 datasets

NanoReview aggregates results submitted for each chip rather than a single test session. Its AnTuTu figures use AnTuTu 11, and its Geekbench figures use Geekbench 6. The sample counts below are listed in the order 7 Gen 3, then 7s Gen 4.

Metric Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 Difference Samples (7 Gen 3 / 7s Gen 4)
AnTuTu 11 total 1,027,925 1,041,898 7s Gen 4 about 1% higher 175 / 35
AnTuTu 11 GPU component 217,586 187,783 7 Gen 3 about 16% higher 175 / 35
Geekbench 6 single-core 1,131 1,223 7s Gen 4 about 8% higher 26 / 15
Geekbench 6 multi-core 3,111 3,168 7s Gen 4 about 2% higher 26 / 15

Reading the gaps

  • Both sites show the 7s Gen 4 ahead on Geekbench and on the CPU-oriented parts of the score, and both show the 7 Gen 3 ahead on the GPU component.
  • The size of the lead varies. The 7s Gen 4’s AnTuTu total is about 9% higher on 91mobiles but only about 1% higher on NanoReview, so the two AnTuTu totals should not be treated as one result.
  • NanoReview’s Geekbench 6 multi-core margin is about 2%, and its GPU and Geekbench figures rest on 15 to 35 samples per test. These figures can change as new submissions arrive.
  • Neither benchmark measures frame rates in specific games. A GPU component score is a synthetic measure, so it does not by itself show which chip will play a given game more smoothly.

Which chip fits which priorities

  • Newer platform with stronger CPU results: The 7s Gen 4 is the better fit on the benchmark evidence, with the caveat that its CPU lead is modest in NanoReview’s data.
  • Stronger GPU component scores: The 7 Gen 3 leads on GPU in both sources. That is a synthetic result, not a measured gaming experience.
  • Higher listed display, charging and modem ceilings: The 7 Gen 3 has the higher ceilings on paper. Check the specific handset’s panel, charger and supported bands before counting these as benefits.
  • Quad-core-style efficiency and a single shared design: Both chips use the same three-tier core layout, so this is not a deciding factor between them.

Choosing a phone, not just a chip
