Both Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 are 4 nm mobile platforms, but the available specifications do not establish which is faster in a direct test. Qualcomm lists a higher maximum CPU clock for the 4 Gen 5, while the 6 Gen 1 has newer listed Wi-Fi and Bluetooth standards. Those differences are useful clues, not a substitute for testing the phones that use each chip.
Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 vs. Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 specifications
| Specification | Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 | Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 |
|---|---|---|
| Manufacturing process | 4 nm | 4 nm |
| Maximum CPU clock listed by Qualcomm | Up to 2.2 GHz | Up to 2.4 GHz |
| Wi-Fi | Wi-Fi 6E | Wi-Fi 5 |
| Bluetooth | Bluetooth 5.2 | Bluetooth 5.1 |
| Cellular details listed | Snapdragon X62 modem | Peak download up to 2.8 Gbps, upload up to 900 Mbps, and 140 MHz sub-6 GHz bandwidth |
Specifications are from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 product page and Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 product page. These are platform-level figures; the phone maker’s implementation and the networks available where you use the phone can change the experience.
Which chipset is faster?
The listed maximum clock is higher on Snapdragon 4 Gen 5, but clock speed alone cannot show which chip is faster overall. The available specifications do not establish matching CPU core configurations, sustained performance, or a controlled comparison between these two platforms. A higher peak clock does not guarantee better everyday responsiveness, gaming performance, or battery life.
What the published performance percentages mean
Qualcomm reports up to 35% better CPU performance and up to 30% better GPU performance for Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 versus its previous generation. For Snapdragon 4 Gen 5, Qualcomm reports up to 77% improved GPU performance, 10% better power savings, 25% less screen stutter, and 43% faster app launches versus its previous generation. These are separate generational claims, not results from a Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 versus Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 test. They cannot be used to rank the two chips directly.

Qualcomm’s May 7, 2026 announcement also cites up to 21% better GPU performance for Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 versus its previous generation. That figure is about 6 Gen 5, not 6 Gen 1, and does not indicate how the two chipsets in this comparison perform against each other. The announcement said commercial Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 devices were expected in the second half of 2026 from global OEMs including Honor, OPPO, realme, and REDMI; it does not confirm that a particular model has launched or is available in a given market. See Qualcomm’s announcement.
Benchmark comparison: no direct winner established
No controlled head-to-head benchmark result for Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 is established by the available evidence. Separate results from different phones, benchmark versions, or test conditions would not make a fair direct comparison. A useful benchmark report should identify the exact phone models, benchmark app and version, software, operating mode, thermal conditions, and whether results came from one run or repeated runs. Gaming stability, heat, power draw, and battery life also require testing of the actual phones.

How to choose between phones using these chips
Start with the complete phone rather than the chipset name. Cooling, memory, display, camera implementation, software support, price, and supported network bands can matter as much as—or more than—the differences listed on a platform page. For connectivity, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 give the 6 Gen 1 the stronger listed standards, but benefits depend on compatible devices, routers, and local network conditions. The 4 Gen 5’s listed cellular peak rates are platform specifications, not a promise of the speed or coverage a particular phone will deliver.

- Choose based on independent tests of the specific models you can buy, especially if gaming or long sustained workloads matter.
- Check each phone maker’s specification sheet for cellular bands, memory, screen, camera hardware, and update policy.
- Compare local price and availability for the exact model; a chipset comparison alone cannot settle value.
