The Smeg SI2M7643B is a 60 cm black induction hob with four cooking zones and two pairs of zones that can be joined for larger cookware. Its 7.2 kW rating, specific worktop cut-out and hardwired connection make installation checks just as important as the cooking features. Public evidence confirms that CHOICE tested the model, but its performance scores are restricted to members, so a public review cannot fairly claim it beats competing hobs.
What the Smeg SI2M7643B offers
This is a built-in electric induction hob with a black ceramic-glass surface, bevelled front edge and low-profile design. Smeg lists four 21 cm zones, each rated at 2.30 kW with a 3.20 kW booster. The booster can run for up to 10 minutes, according to the user manual.
At the front, Multi Slider touch controls provide 14 power levels and red indicator LEDs. Listed functions include pan detection and automatic adjustment to pan dimensions, zone timers, a minute minder, a count-up elapsed timer, control and child locks, residual-heat indication, and overheat and overflow shutdown. Eco-Heat and Eco-Off are also listed; Eco-Off can switch a zone off before its countdown ends, relying on residual heat.

#1 Best Overall
- HIGH EFFICIENCY - ChangBERT Induction cooktop offers 9 preset power levels (200-1800W) and 18 preset temperature settings (120-460℉, 20F per level). With an 83% energy efficiency rating, the induction cooker is more efficient than traditional gas or electric stoves, providing quick heat-up and faster cooking times.
- CONSISTENTLY STABLE HIGH-POWER OUTPUT - Built for constant use, it features continuous-duty circuitry for non-stop cooking. The unique power control technology ensures stable high-power output, reduces the temperature of internal electronics, and facilitates low-noise heat dissipation, providing reliable cooking performance. This dependable performance sets it apart from others.
- LARGE COOKING AREA - Features an expanded magnetic coil design that optimizes the winding structure to enhance the transfer of electromagnetic energy directly to the cookware, significantly improving heating efficiency and ensuring more even heat distribution across the bottom of the cookware.
- NSF CERTIFIED & COMMERCIAL GRADE - UL commercial standard 197, completely ETL & NSF approved. It meets industry durability standards, passing a drop test with an impact of 1.5 ft lbs. Designed for large-volume usage, it is ideal for commercial and professional settings such as restaurants, industrial kitchens, and other catering services.
- EASY TO CONTROL & CLEAN - The control buttons with solid tactile response make operation intuitive and precise. With simple and clear display, the Key-Press-Control Panel provides clear visibility and easy control, even with gloves or wet hands. With no open flame or heating element, food does not burn onto the glass cooktop, making it easy to clean greasy dirt.
How the MultiZone layout works
The four zones are arranged as two adjacent pairs, one on each side. Smeg lists each MultiZone area as 39.2 × 19.5 cm. Joining a pair makes the adjacent zones operate as one area, but the manual gives an important placement condition: cookware spanning them must cover the centres of both zones. It is not an unrestricted cooking surface across the glass.
If you regularly cook with a long pan or griddle, compare its base and the way you intend to position it with the MultiZone dimensions and placement diagram in the manual. Smeg lists the optional GRILLPLATE, a 410 × 240 mm induction-compatible griddle, but it is not stated to be included with the hob.
Controls, sounds and hood compatibility
Each zone has a countdown timer from 00 to 99 minutes, and the manual also describes a minute minder and count-up timer. The control lock and child-safety device help prevent accidental changes. Smeg’s Auto-Vent feature uses infrared communication to work with a compatible hood; it should not be assumed to work with every extractor.

- PORTABLE INDUCTION BURNER: Duxtop induction cooktop uses 110/120 V 15 amp electrical outlet–standard in all North American homes. ETL listed and built to North American electrical standards. It is lightweight and compact for easy handling and storage
- Choose from 20 preset power levels (100 to 1800 W) and 20 preset temperature level settings (100 °F to 460 °F). With an 83% energy efficiency, induction burner is more efficient than traditional gas or electric stoves
- DIGITAL LCD SENSOR: Touch control panel: child safety lock keeps the cooking and timer settings from being accidentally changed once they have been set; fast boil button; keep warm button (for 1-30 minutes at 140 °F); up to 10-hour timer button
- Induction stoves rely on cookware to heat, so it’s essential to choose magnetic bottom cookware with a minimum diameter of 5 inches. Auto-pan detection will shut off automatically after 60 seconds if no cookware, or the incorrect cookware is detected
- Although induction itself is a noiseless process, there may be high pitched sounds from the cookware due to multiple layers of metals sandwiched together. Please allow the induction cooker to cool down before cleaning
The manual notes that cookware may crackle, whistle, hum, click, hiss or buzz depending on its construction, the selected power and fan operation. It says these sounds do not by themselves indicate a malfunction.

|---|---|
| Appliance dimensions | 600 × 510 × 49 mm (Smeg catalog) |
| Worktop cut-out | 490 × 560 mm (Smeg catalog; the manual diagram gives 560 × 490 mm) |
| Electrical rating | 7.2 kW; 220–240 V or 400 V 2N; 50–60 Hz; 32 A listed (Smeg catalog) |
| Connection | 150 cm universal cable and six-pole terminal box; no plug supplied (Smeg catalog) |
| Power adjustment options | The manufacturer documents a range of power-limitation settings in the manual; confirm the setting and connection option against the installation requirements. |
Check the cabinet opening and underside ventilation requirements before ordering. The manual includes clearance and ventilation instructions and warns that a drawer installed below the hob may become warm during cooking. Electrical suitability cannot be determined from the 7.2 kW rating alone: the supply, wiring and permitted connection option depend on the installation and local rules. Have a qualified installer assess the site and follow the manual.
What independent testing establishes
CHOICE’s Smeg SI2M7643B review page lists the model in its test database and identifies the testing year as 2023 or earlier. Its categories include cooking performance, ease of use, low- and high-heat results, wok cooking, turn-down and boil time, but the numerical scores are members-only. The public page therefore establishes that the model was tested, not how well it performed. There is no basis in the public results for assigning it a score, recommendation or comparative rank.

For a meaningful comparison with another 60 cm induction hob, compare cabinet and ventilation fit, zone layout and pan-placement limits, rated load and booster duration, controls and timers, and published results from the same testing body and test generation. Do not treat a feature list as a substitute for comparable performance scores.
Availability and model identification
CHOICE’s Australian listing marks the model discontinued and shows A$1,990; that is a regional page snapshot, not a current universal price. Smeg Hungary also marks it discontinued and out of stock. These notices do not establish worldwide unavailability, but they make it sensible to verify local stock, warranty, service and returns before buying.
Confirm that a listing is for the black SI2M7643B, EAN 8017709254964, rather than the similarly named SI7643B or a different colour or suffix. Availability may be residual stock, and the exact model and seller terms matter more than a matching product photo.
