The Australian Smeg SI2641DAU may suit a kitchen replacing a gas or ceramic cooktop, but two checks come first: the opening must match its specified cut-out, and the electrical supply must meet its 15A, 2.8 kW connection rating. It has four induction zones, boost on every zone and practical safety features; its total power limit is also an important trade-off if you often cook on several zones at once.
Will the SI2641DAU fit your existing cut-out?
The cooktop body measures 600 × 510 × 56 mm. Smeg specifies a cut-out 555–560 mm wide and 478–482 mm deep, with either top-mount or fully flush installation listed as options. Measure the benchtop opening itself rather than relying on the old cooktop’s nominal width or assuming that a gas-hob opening will work.
Smeg describes the model as suitable for possible gas-hob replacement, but that does not mean every gas cut-out is compatible. Your installer should check the actual opening, benchtop construction, installation method and ventilation requirements against the manufacturer’s specifications. Can it run from an existing 15A connection?
The Australian SI2641DAU is rated at 2.8 kW and supplied with a 15A plug, according to Smeg. That makes it important to verify the actual connection and circuit before buying: do not assume that a cooktop’s existing supply is suitable just because it is already connected, or because another appliance used the same opening. Have a qualified electrician confirm compatibility and installation requirements.

Check the model carefully. The Australian SI2641DAU is not the superficially similar SI2641D sold in other markets; this review’s 15A plug and 2.8 kW rating apply to the Australian model.
How powerful is it for everyday cooking?
The 2.8 kW figure is the whole appliance’s maximum electrical rating, not a promise that every zone can deliver its individual maximum simultaneously. The cooktop has four zones, each with boost, but its total connection limit is the key figure when considering how much cooking it can support at once.

Zone power figures differ between Smeg’s product page and product sheet. The product page lists 1.60 kW nominal and 2.10 kW boost for each 21 cm zone, and 1.20 kW nominal and 1.60 kW boost for each 15 cm zone. The product sheet instead lists 1500 W nominal and 2000 W boost for the 21 cm zones, and 1200 W nominal and 1600 W boost for the 15 cm zones. Both give the appliance an overall 2.8 kW / 15A rating; consult Smeg for clarification if the zone-level figures matter to your decision.
The available independent listing does not establish comparative cooking speed or real-world multi-zone performance. CHOICE identifies the SI2641DAU as tested and lists four zones, 60 cm width, a 2.8 kW maximum capacity and a two-year warranty, but its captured page restricts the performance score, boil time and reliability and satisfaction results to members. There is not enough accessible evidence to call this model faster or slower than a particular alternative.

What pans and zone sizes does it use?
The layout is two 21 cm zones and two 15 cm zones. Those measurements help you compare the cooktop with your usual pan bases, but they are not a guarantee that every pan of the same diameter will heat identically. The retailer notes that cookware needs a magnetic base to work with induction. A simple check is whether a magnet sticks firmly to the pan’s base.

Which controls and safety features are included?
Smeg lists touch controls, nine power levels, rapid level selection, boost on all four zones, zone timers, a minute minder, residual-heat indication, pan detection, a control lock, overheat protection and automatic shutoff. The product sheet specifies four timers, an acoustic end-of-cooking alert and a two-year parts-and-labour warranty.

What does it cost, and is it available?
Smeg Australia’s product page displayed an RRP of A$1,690 and an “OutOfStock” status when captured in 2026. Treat both as page-specific listing information, not a current retailer quote or confirmation that the cooktop is unavailable everywhere. Check Australian retailers for current price, stock and delivery before deciding.
Who should consider the Smeg SI2641DAU?
It is worth considering if your measured cut-out fits, your electrical supply is confirmed as suitable, and the 2.8 kW total limit aligns with how you cook. The four-zone layout, boost, timers and safety controls make up its documented feature set, but the available public information does not establish how its cooking performance compares with higher-rated induction models.
