Before replacing a slow Fire TV Stick, try Amazon’s built-in troubleshooting for any app that crashes, will not open, or stops responding. Then consider Taotlus for a different way to launch apps and Background Apps and Process List for inspecting background apps. One author said using the two made a Fire TV Stick feel better to use, but that is an anecdote—not a measured speed test or a promise that either app will speed up your device.
Start with Amazon’s troubleshooting for app problems
If one app is crashing, failing to open, or unresponsive, Amazon recommends restarting the Fire TV device. If the problem persists, clear the affected app’s cache and data, reinstall it if needed, and check for a Fire TV software update. Amazon’s update settings may appear under My Fire TV or Devices & Software, depending on the device and software version. See Amazon’s app troubleshooting steps.
For a low-storage message, Amazon also documents clearing all application caches or clearing cache and data for an individual app. Cache is temporary data; clearing app data can reset the app, remove locally stored state, or require you to sign in again. Amazon says Fire TV automatically clears an app’s cache when it has not been used for more than 30 days and the device is low on storage. Taotlus: an alternative app launcher
Taotlus presents apps in a grid, giving you another way to arrange and open them. The September 11, 2026 article describing it says Fire TV Stick does not let Taotlus become the default launcher, so it does not replace the standard home screen. The author says pinning it near the top can make it easier to launch; some models may also support resuming the last-used app. Check how those behaviors work on your own model and software version.

This can make navigation feel more convenient if you prefer a grid of apps. It does not establish that the device’s measured performance improves.
Background Apps and Process List: a manual route to app controls
This app helps you see apps running in the background and navigate to their app information pages. From there, you can choose to force stop an app. The workflow is manual: it is not an automatic, one-tap cleanup or a guarantee that closing background apps will make the Fire TV Stick faster. Use force stop only when you want to close a selected app; it may interrupt that app’s activity.

What “made it feel new again” means
The September 11, 2026 account says the author’s Fire TV Stick felt better to use after making these changes. It provides no controlled test, benchmark, or measured speed comparison, so treat that result as one person’s experience rather than a general performance claim. Taotlus changes how apps are opened; Background Apps and Process List makes it easier to reach controls for selected apps. Neither description proves that an older or hardware-limited device will become faster.

When replacement may be worth considering
If app-specific troubleshooting does not resolve the issue, decide whether the remaining slowdown affects how you use the device and whether a newer model meets a real need. Replacing a Fire TV Stick is an option, not a necessary result of trying these apps. The cited account mentions upgrading to newer hardware but does not establish that a particular model is required or will solve every cause of sluggishness.
