Slovenia’s .si domain registry recorded 20,276 new web addresses in the 24 hours before Monday afternoon, October 5, 2026, according to The Next Web. The spike followed President Donald Trump’s remarks at the United Nations and a White House order directing U.S. executive agencies to use “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in certain official communications. The order changed terminology for parts of the U.S. executive branch—not the name of AI worldwide—and the timing alone does not establish that it caused every registration.

What happened to Slovenia’s .si domains?

The Next Web reported that Register.si’s live counter showed 20,276 new .si web addresses in the 24 hours to Monday afternoon, October 5, 2026. The same dated snapshot showed 46,066 additions over the preceding month and 298,682 .si domains in total. These are figures reported at that time, not current totals.

The activity had already accelerated after Trump’s September 22 remarks at the United Nations General Assembly. According to The Next Web, Register.si spokeswoman Klara Herman said the registry logged 11,000 new domains on September 30. The report described the late-September activity as “unprecedented,” citing Herman’s interview with the BBC.

A separate count from internet measurement company Netcraft also showed a sharp increase, but its figures come from a different method and should not be treated as identical to Register.si’s counter.

What did Trump’s order actually change?

On September 29, 2026, the White House published Executive Order 14434, “Inaugurating The Era Of Super Intelligence.” Section 2(a) directs executive departments and agencies, “to the maximum extent permitted by law,” to use “Super Intelligence” and “SI” instead of “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” in specified executive-branch materials: official correspondence, public communications, websites, reports, policy documents, and other non-statutory documents.

That is a terminology directive for U.S. executive departments and agencies. It does not rename AI globally, bind private companies or other countries, or make “SI” a universal replacement for “AI.” The letters in Slovenia’s .si country-code top-level domain happen to match the initials of “Super Intelligence”; that coincidence is what made the domain extension newly topical.

How the reported counts differ

Netcraft’s survey-based observations provide another view of the surge. Because .si is not obliged to publish zone files, Netcraft estimates hourly registrations through its own internet survey. Its numbers are therefore not the same measurement as Register.si’s live counter.

Date or period Reported figure Source and measurement
24 hours after September 22 UN remarks 4,794 registrations; 198,535 total .si domains Netcraft’s internet survey, as reported in 2026
24 hours to October 1 13,603 registrations Netcraft’s internet survey, as reported in 2026
Eight days to October 1 21.6% increase in total .si domains Netcraft’s internet survey, as reported in 2026
September compared with August About 13 times as many domains registered in September Netcraft’s analysis, as reported in 2026
24 hours to Monday afternoon, October 5 20,276 additions; 298,682 total Register.si live counter, as reported by The Next Web

The Next Web also reported that August had fewer than 2,000 additions. The different counts and windows show the acceleration, but they are not interchangeable: the registry counter and Netcraft survey measure activity differently.

Did Trump’s announcement cause the full surge?

The timing supports an association: Netcraft observed a rise after the September 22 UN remarks, and the September 29 order made “SI” more visible. But the available figures do not establish that either announcement caused every registration. Herman, the Register.si spokeswoman, cautioned against attributing the whole increase to Trump, according to The Next Web’s account of her BBC interview.

Nor do the counts establish who bought the domains or why. No registry-wide breakdown of buyer motivations is provided in the cited reporting. The available resale and buyer-sample evidence points to speculation as part of the story, but cannot quantify all motives.

What do the resale and buyer figures suggest?

Netcraft’s October 1 report found that just over half of the .si domains it detected as registered at Dynadot between a Truth Social poll and Trump’s UN remarks were listed for resale on Dynadot’s aftermarket. That is a finding about the domains Netcraft detected in that timeframe, not all .si registrations.

Hostinger told The Next Web that only about 3% of the .si names bought by its customers explicitly referenced AI. That percentage describes Hostinger’s reported customer sample, not the registry as a whole. Together, the resale listings and Hostinger’s sample suggest that some buyers were speculating on the sudden attention rather than registering names for an AI business.

Netcraft also identified 87 .com domains pairing well-known brands with “superintelligence,” each listed for resale at $20,000. Those were asking prices, not completed sales; Netcraft said it had not seen evidence that the domains had changed hands.

Does .si replace .ai as a domain for AI projects?

No. The White House order does not change domain-name rules or make .si an official or universal substitute for .ai. .si remains Slovenia’s country-code top-level domain, while .ai is the domain associated with Anguilla. A burst of registrations driven partly by attention or resale interest is not evidence that .si has become a settled choice for AI companies.

If you are choosing a domain for a real project, weigh the audience and geographic signal alongside the practical terms. Check the current registration and renewal price, the required commitment, and the registrar’s support for the extension. A country-code domain can communicate a geographic association; choose it only if that signal fits your project and users.

The Next Web quoted Klaudijus Januitis, Hostinger’s head of domains, via TechCrunch: “For Anguilla, .ai became a second economy. For Slovenia, .si is a nice bonus.” That observation is not a forecast that .si will follow .ai’s commercial trajectory.

What is known about safety?

As of its October 1, 2026 report, Netcraft had not detected an increase in malicious content such as phishing connected with the terminology change. That is a time-bounded observation, not a guarantee that any particular .si domain or resale listing is safe. Evaluate a domain and its seller on their own merits.
