Slay the Spire 2 ranked No. 1 among games played on Steam Deck during September 2026, followed by Stardew Valley and The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. The ranking below covers September 1–30, 2026, and reflects relative play activity—not sales, review scores, or a count of total players.

Steam Deck’s 20 most-played games in September 2026

Steam Deck HQ published this 20-game ranking for the September calendar month. Valve’s public Steam Deck chart displayed a different rolling window—September 2 through October 1, 2026—so rankings for the two periods should not be treated as if they use identical dates.

  1. Slay the Spire 2
  2. Stardew Valley
  3. The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth
  4. Fields of Mistria
  5. Valheim
  6. Palworld
  7. Baldur’s Gate 3
  8. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered
  9. No Man’s Sky
  10. Diablo 4
  11. Balatro
  12. Elden Ring
  13. Vampire Survivors
  14. Cyberpunk 2077
  15. Brotato
  16. Red Dead Redemption 2
  17. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition
  18. Graveyard Keeper 2
  19. Hades 2
  20. Megabonk

What the ranking measures—and what it doesn’t

The list is a relative play-activity chart based on Valve’s public Steam Deck ranking. It indicates which titles ranked higher in activity over the stated period; it does not establish how many hours people played, how many players each game had, or what share of Steam Deck users chose a particular title. No play-hour totals, percentage shares, or statistical sample size were published in the cited material.

It is also not a sales chart, review ranking, or performance benchmark. A high position signals activity, not that a game necessarily runs better on the Deck, has stronger reviews, or sold more copies. Valve’s rolling chart showed Slay the Spire 2 at No. 1 in its September 2–October 1 window as well; Valve listed the game at $24.99 during that captured period, but Steam prices can vary by region and change over time.

How to read the genre mix

The chart brings together games with different rhythms and reasons to return. Its breadth can help narrow a choice by the kind of play you want, but the ranking itself does not compare compatibility, session length, or replayability.

Play style Examples from the chart What to consider
Deckbuilding and card roguelikes Slay the Spire 2, Balatro Run-based structure and repeat attempts make these natural options for players who enjoy building strategies over successive runs.
Farming and life simulation Stardew Valley, Fields of Mistria These suit players looking for ongoing progression and a more relaxed routine rather than a single fixed campaign.
Survival and crafting Valheim, Palworld, No Man’s Sky Consider whether you want resource gathering, building, exploration, or a combination of those activities.
Large-scale role-playing and open-world games Baldur’s Gate 3, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered, Elden Ring, Cyberpunk 2077, Red Dead Redemption 2, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition These offer expansive worlds or campaigns; check the specific game’s Steam Deck compatibility and control experience if that matters to your choice.
Action roguelikes and short-run games The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, Vampire Survivors, Brotato, Hades 2, Megabonk Run-based action may be a better fit when you prefer repeatable attempts over a long, continuous story.
Other management and action Diablo 4, Graveyard Keeper 2 The ranking alone does not describe their session patterns or Deck performance, so use the game pages and compatibility information for those specifics.

What stands out in September’s list

A roguelike leads, with familiar favorites close behind

Slay the Spire 2 took the top position, while Stardew Valley placed second and The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth third. That top three combines a deckbuilding roguelike with two established catalog games, showing that the list is not limited to the newest releases.

Older catalog games share space with newer activity

The presence of titles such as Valheim at No. 5 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered at No. 8 shows that a September activity chart can include games with different release histories. Rank reflects activity in the period, not a game’s age or a permanent popularity order.

How to choose a game from the chart

  • For repeatable strategy runs: Start with Slay the Spire 2 or Balatro.
  • For a slower, ongoing routine: Consider Stardew Valley or Fields of Mistria.
  • For exploration and making a world your own: Look at Valheim, Palworld, or No Man’s Sky.
  • For a sprawling story or world: Compare the RPG and open-world entries against the setting and campaign length you prefer.
  • For quick, repeatable action: Try one of the action roguelikes, then check its store page for control and compatibility details.

Use Steam’s current compatibility information for the specific title before buying or installing if Deck support is important: a place on a play-activity chart does not certify performance or compatibility.
