In 2013, Siemens announced Datacenter Clarity LC, a data-center infrastructure management (DCIM) offering designed to bring IT and facilities information into one view. Siemens presented it as a way to connect asset data, workflows, and planning—not as a current product recommendation. The announcement appeared in a market DatacenterKnowledge described as having more than 75 companies offering tools under the broad DCIM umbrella.
What Siemens announced in 2013
Datacenter Clarity LC was described as engineering and lifecycle-management software for data centers. Its central idea was to combine information about IT and facility assets with workflows and work orders, so operators could consider infrastructure changes across both domains rather than treating them as separate planning problems.
The 2013 article also described support for “what if” analysis and an open API architecture. Siemens said the product supported more than 400 protocols across IT and facilities. That figure was a vendor claim reported at the time; the article did not independently test interoperability. DatacenterKnowledge’s March 20, 2013 article is the source for these product descriptions.
What problem was it meant to address?
Siemens framed the product around a practical operator question: can a data center grow as organizational or client needs change—accommodating a different physical layout, more servers, changed power use, or new cooling requirements? The article also raised whether consolidation or expansion could happen with shorter cycle times and limited impact on availability or operations.
#1 Best Overall
Those questions explain the intended role of a DCIM system: connect infrastructure information to planning and operational decisions. In the article, Siemens said Datacenter Clarity LC could support capacity planning, real-time monitoring and alerts, uptime, and operational and energy efficiency. These were advertised benefits, not independently verified performance results.
How Siemens positioned itself in a crowded field
DatacenterKnowledge reported that more than 75 companies offered tools under the broad DCIM label in 2013. That is a historical count from the article, not a current estimate of the market.

- Zero trust architecture detects hostile intrusions and locks down sensitive information
- Sends automated alerts and proactively assesses power equipment status
- REST API allows easy integration with native systems and automated M2M interactions
- Compatible with Eaton"s Brightlayer Data Centers software suite
- Hardware Root of Trust Enables Enhanced Security
Siemens’ proposed distinction was its existing portfolio in power distribution, building automation, fire and life safety, and security, combined with software and integration capabilities. The article reported the company’s positioning; it did not establish an independent ranking of vendors or substantiate a claim that Siemens had the broadest portfolio.

Siemens also pointed to its experience with product-lifecycle-management software in other industries. The article quoted Siemens as saying it had more than 7 million PLM software licensees. That was contextual company background, not a figure for Datacenter Clarity LC users or DCIM adoption.

What Siemens said about the product
John Kovach, identified in the article as Siemens’ Global Head of Data Centers, said: “Datacenter Clarity LC can help you optimize capacity planning while driving operation and energy efficiencies.”
Kovach also described the offering this way: “Our vendor neutral solution supports more than 400 protocols from both the IT and facility perspective, giving customers total visibility of their data centers.” Both statements are Siemens claims quoted in the 2013 article; they should not be read as independent validation of results or compatibility.

What the article does—and does not—establish
- Established historically: Siemens announced Datacenter Clarity LC as a DCIM offering in 2013 and presented it as a bridge between IT and facilities information, workflows, and planning.
- Reported claims: More than 400 supported protocols, along with expected benefits for capacity, uptime, efficiency, monitoring, and scalability, were attributed to Siemens.
- Not established: The article does not document independent product testing, current availability, present-day support, or current partner availability.
Because the available account dates from March 20, 2013, it cannot answer whether Datacenter Clarity LC remains available or supported today. Anyone considering a present-day purchase would need to verify product status and service arrangements directly with Siemens; the historical article is not a basis for a current buying recommendation.
What a DCIM buyer can take from the announcement
The article does not compare current DCIM vendors. Its themes can, however, be turned into evaluation questions for a buyer comparing systems today. Treat these as criteria to investigate, not as a ranking or evidence that any current product meets them.
