Siemens’ new iQ700 is an AI-assisted oven, while its 10-litre steam drawer is a separate compact appliance. Siemens says the iQ700 can identify more than 100 dishes, recommend settings and remember your own favourite recipes. The 14-centimetre-high steam drawer adds steam cooking in a small footprint, either beneath an oven or as a standalone unit. They solve different problems: the oven automates decisions; the drawer adds a dedicated steam-cooking format.
What Siemens calls its AI oven
In its IFA 2026 announcement, Siemens Home Appliances says the iQ700 oven can “automatically identify more than a hundred dishes and suggest the right settings.” Its EuroCucina 2026 announcement describes the oven as detecting and perfecting up to 100 dishes. These are Siemens’ product claims, not independently tested performance figures.

The practical promise is less about an oven cooking without supervision and more about reducing setup decisions. The appliance recognises the dish, proposes a suitable programme and settings, and can then use those choices as the starting point for cooking. Siemens has not published independent accuracy data, a list of every recognised dish or conditions under which recognition succeeds, so users should treat the number as a manufacturer specification rather than a guarantee for every recipe, container or presentation.

Saved personal recipes
Siemens says the current iQ700 can save your own favourite recipes, including examples such as a family apple cake or Sunday roast. Once a recipe is stored, the oven can start the associated cooking programme next time instead of making you configure it again. The feature is useful for repeat cooking, but it does not mean the oven has learned an unlimited recipe library or can validate a recipe’s food-safety requirements.

What the steam drawer adds
The steam product is not the same appliance as the AI oven. Siemens describes it as a separate drawer with a 10-litre capacity, cooking programmes, a colour touchscreen and a water tank. The 2025 launch material puts its height at 14 centimetres and describes a handle-free glass front.
Steam cooking introduces moisture that a conventional dry-heat oven does not supply in the same way. That can be valuable for foods where retaining moisture or using a dedicated steam programme is important. The published material does not provide independent results for texture, speed, energy consumption or cooking accuracy, so those outcomes will depend on the programme, food quantity and the specific model installed.
Installation options
Siemens says the drawer can be combined with an oven or installed as a single unit. Its shallow 14-centimetre form is the strongest practical argument for kitchens that cannot accommodate a full-height combination steam oven. Check the exact model’s ventilation, cabinetry and electrical requirements before planning an installation; those specifications are not stated in the announcements.
How Home Connect fits in
Siemens’ 2026 oven brochure says Home Connect has supported remote oven use, recipes, automatic programmes and saved favourite settings since 2014. The same brochure says intelligent assistance for the AI-powered iQ700 has been available since 2022. The 2026 announcements add the newer dish-recognition and personal-favourite functions.
Home Connect therefore provides the connected layer around the oven rather than replacing the oven’s controls. Depending on the model and country, it may let you send settings, access recipes, start supported programmes remotely or reuse saved settings. Availability and safety restrictions can vary by model and market; confirm the exact Home Connect feature list before purchase.
iQ700 oven versus steam drawer
| Question | iQ700 AI oven | Siemens steam drawer |
|---|---|---|
| Automation | Siemens says it recognises more than 100 dishes, recommends settings and stores personal favourites. | Siemens lists cooking programmes and a colour touchscreen; no dish-recognition claim is made. |
| Steam capability | Not established by the cited announcements as a steam appliance. | Dedicated steam appliance with a 10-litre capacity and water tank. |
| Footprint | Full oven installation. | 14 centimetres high; can sit with an oven or operate as a standalone unit. |
| Connected functions | Home Connect remote use, recipes, automatic programmes and saved settings are described in Siemens’ brochure. | Connected features are not specified in the cited release. |
| Best fit | People who want help identifying dishes and repeating favourite programmes. | People who want compact steam cooking without allocating space to a full-size steam oven. |
| Evidence status | Recognition and recipe-saving figures are Siemens claims; no independent laboratory results are published. | Capacity and height are Siemens specifications; no independent cooking or energy results are published. |
Which one makes sense for your kitchen?
Choose the iQ700 if setup is the nuisance
- You cook many different dishes and want suggested settings rather than manual trial and error.
- You repeatedly make a small set of family recipes and would use saved favourites.
- You value Home Connect functions such as remote access and automatic programmes.
Choose the steam drawer if space is the constraint
- You want dedicated steam cooking but cannot fit a tall combination steam oven.
- A 14-centimetre drawer can fit your cabinetry and a 10-litre chamber matches your typical portions.
- You prefer a separate steam appliance instead of paying for AI recognition in a full oven.
Consider both when their jobs are complementary
The products are not substitutes. The iQ700 addresses programme selection and repeatability; the drawer addresses steam cooking and compact installation. Buying both only makes sense if you have the cabinetry, water-management provisions and budget for two distinct appliances and will use both functions.
Important limits before you buy
- Recognition is not universal. Siemens gives a figure of more than 100 dishes or up to 100 dishes, but does not publish a complete recognition catalogue or success rate.
- Performance is not independently benchmarked here. No laboratory cooking, energy-use or reliability results are included in the official material cited.
- Model and country matter. Home Connect functions, installation rules and available programmes can differ by market and exact model number.
- Prices and retail availability are unsettled. The cited announcements do not establish a retail price, verified listing or recurring promotion.
Bottom line
Siemens’ announcement is best understood as two targeted upgrades rather than one magical AI steam oven. The iQ700 uses Siemens’ claimed dish recognition and saved-favourite functions to make oven setup easier, while the separate 10-litre steam drawer brings steam cooking into a 14-centimetre space. Pick the oven for automation, the drawer for compact steam capability, or both only when you genuinely need both jobs.
