Shubham Goyal won IIM Ahmedabad’s gold medal for scholastic performance after finishing first overall in his MBA cohort. He later moved from consulting at Boston Consulting Group into Microsoft product management. As of October 2026, India Today and The Times of India report that he is a Principal Product Manager in Calgary, leading a 13-member team focused on enterprise deployment of Microsoft Security solutions.
What IIM Ahmedabad’s gold medal recognized
Goyal’s LinkedIn profile lists an MBA at IIM Ahmedabad from 2017 to 2019 and says he finished with Overall Institute Rank 1 in a batch of 393. It records the gold medal for scholastic performance in March 2019. The profile describes the medal as recognizing students ranked first, second or third overall after combining their GPAs across both MBA years—not as an award for a single exam. Goyal’s profile also lists a separate first-year gold medal.
His profile states that his overall GPA was 4.00/4.33 and calls it the best overall GPA in an IIMA MBA batch since the institute’s inception. That distinction, including the claim that it was verified by the MBA program manager, is presented on Goyal’s profile; the other cited reporting does not independently document it.

These academic figures are reported by the outlet, which attributes its detailed career account to his profile.

His current reported role: Microsoft Security deployment
India Today and The Times of India reported in October 2026 that Goyal had become a Microsoft Principal Product Manager in Calgary and leads a 13-member team focused on enterprise deployment of Microsoft Security solutions. NDTV’s October 5, 2026 report instead calls him a Principal Product Lead and describes a product team without specifying the Security remit.
