For most Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra owners, keeping the tablet is the sensible choice unless a specific workload is pushing its limits or a trade-in makes the upgrade affordable. Samsung claims faster processing and introduces a redesigned cooling system on the S12 Ultra, but its published specifications show the same 14.6-inch display size and resolution, thickness, and Wi-Fi model weight. The S12’s U.S. starting price is $1,399.99, with availability scheduled to begin October 7, 2026.
What changes on the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra?
Processor and cooling
Samsung says the S12 Ultra’s 3 nm processor delivers up to 61% faster NPU processing, 19% faster CPU performance, and 17% improved GPU power compared with the S11 Ultra. Samsung UK identifies the processor as the MediaTek Dimensity 9500. These are Samsung’s manufacturer comparison figures, not independent benchmark results. Samsung also says the S12 has a newly designed 3D vapor chamber to dissipate heat during demanding tasks; how much that improves sustained performance remains to be established by independent testing. Samsung’s U.S. launch announcement and its UK product specifications describe these changes.
Software and support
Samsung says the S12 Ultra runs Android 17 with One UI 9 and is eligible for up to seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates. That is the announced support commitment for the S12; it does not mean an S11 owner automatically gains seven additional years by upgrading. The remaining support period for an individual S11 depends on its purchase date and Samsung’s applicable support policy. See Samsung’s announcement.
Battery and charging
Samsung lists an 11,600 mAh battery for the S12 Ultra and claims up to 23 hours of video playback. It also says a full recharge from empty takes about 95 minutes with a 45 W adapter. Treat these as manufacturer-stated figures, not independent battery-test results. Samsung’s product specifications and global launch announcement provide the figures.

What stays familiar from the S11 Ultra?
Display
The S12 Ultra has a 14.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with 2960 × 1848 resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate. Samsung’s 2026 Q1 interim report lists the same screen size and resolution for the S11 Ultra. Samsung claims up to 1,600 nits peak brightness for the S12; the S11 report lists 1,600 nits peak brightness and 1,000 nits in high-brightness mode. The published information does not establish a meaningful panel-quality improvement, so the S12 is not a clear reason to upgrade if your main goal is a larger or demonstrably better screen. Size and weight
Samsung lists the S12 Ultra at about 5.1 mm thick and 692 g for the Wi-Fi model. The S11 Ultra Wi-Fi baseline in Samsung’s interim report has the same thickness and weight. On these figures, the change is not a portability upgrade. The measurements are in the S12 specifications and the S11 interim report.

Should you keep the S11 Ultra or consider upgrading?

Before deciding, compare the actual net price in your country after any trade-in, then weigh that against the workload you need to improve and the support time you expect to use. The U.S. launch price is not a universal price or a like-for-like measure of the cost of upgrading: the S11’s current street price, local promotions, and trade-in values vary, and comparable prices outside the U.S. are not established here. Samsung announced the S12 series on September 30, 2026, with U.S. availability scheduled to start October 7, 2026; its U.S. announcement lists a $1,399.99 starting price.

Check accessory fit and added costs
Samsung lists the following accessories for the S12 Ultra, sold separately: Pro Keyboard, Book Cover, Frame Cover, Book Cover Keyboard Slim, and Anti-Reflecting Screen Protector. Confirm compatibility for the exact accessory before buying rather than assuming an S11 accessory will fit. For long typing sessions, a keyboard may be a more relevant added cost than a cover.
