Pat Freiermuth is a conditional start for Week 5, not an automatic one. Through Pittsburgh’s first four 2026 games, he has 14 catches for 125 yards and two touchdowns. The touchdowns offer upside, but his receiving yardage has been modest in the past three games. Check his current injury status, then compare him with the tight end you would bench and your league’s scoring rules.
What Freiermuth has produced through Week 4
The Pittsburgh Steelers’ player profile and game log list this four-game line for the 2026 regular season:
| Game | Receptions | Receiving yards | Receiving touchdowns |
|---|---|---|---|
| Week 1 | 5 | 46 | 1 |
| Week 2 | 4 | 32 | 0 |
| Week 3 | 2 | 30 | 0 |
| Week 4 | 3 | 17 | 1 |
| Through four games | 14 | 125 | 2 |
His best listed receiving game was the opener. Since then, his yardage has stayed between 17 and 32 yards per game, while two touchdowns across the four-game sample provide some scoring upside. That mix makes his value sensitive to whether he scores again and to how your league awards receptions.
How to decide whether to start him in Week 5
- Verify availability close to kickoff. The Steelers’ injury report retrieved for this decision is labeled “Week 4 Injury Report (Browns)” and dated October 1, 2026. It does not establish his Week 5 designation. Check the latest official report rather than assuming he is active, injured, or cleared.
- Compare your actual alternatives. Decide which tight end—or flex candidate, if your roster and league allow it—you would bench. A matchup-specific start/sit decision depends on the player replacing him as much as on Freiermuth’s own recent line.
- Apply your league’s scoring. Reception bonuses or tight-end premium scoring can make catches more valuable; touchdown-heavy scoring increases the importance of his ability to find the end zone. Use your league settings rather than treating one fantasy-points total as universal.
- Check opponent and role information. Weigh the Week 5 matchup alongside current usage, including targets and snap share when those figures are available. Recent form, matchup, usage, and health are useful comparison factors, but the sources here do not establish a player-specific Week 5 projection.
What the available fantasy context does—and does not—tell you
NFL.com’s 2026 game log showed 11 catches for 108 yards and one touchdown through Week 3. Pittsburgh’s profile includes Week 4, so its four-game totals are the more current line for this decision.

StatChasers’ player data and FAQ describes him through Week 3 as a 9.4 PPR-points-per-game player and a streaming option in 12-team leagues. That is historical context, not a Week 5 ranking: its surrounding matchup information is Week 4-oriented. Likewise, CBS Sports’ player page displays fantasy points that depend on scoring settings, so those figures should not be read as a universal value.

Start Freiermuth if his Week 5 availability is confirmed and your roster lacks a clearly stronger option—especially in a format that rewards receptions or touchdowns. If you have a better alternative, his recent yardage gives you a reasonable case to sit him. Make the final call using your opponent, current role information, and the player you would bench; no cited Week 5 projection here supports a categorical ranking.
