Best completionist route: learn how Toradar’s cursed wolf fang works from Einar, give it to Morkvarg, ask for the reward clue, then kill him in human form. This lets you lift the curse, obtain the Novigrad treasure lead and still kill Morkvarg. If you prefer not to turn him human, feeding him his own werewolf meat also lifts the curse and kills him.

The XP amounts are walkthrough figures, not an official universal reward table; exact totals can depend on the quest outcome and quest state. Witcher.tools lists the priestesses’ reward as 85 crowns and 50 XP, and a maximum total of 265 XP and 85 crowns for its walkthrough accounting. Witcher.tools’ In Wolf’s Clothing walkthrough does not establish that every patch, level-scaling situation or quest-state bug yields the same total.
How to get the treasure clue and still kill him
- Start “In Wolf’s Clothing” in Skellige and investigate Freya’s Garden. If you plan to use the meat method, loot Morkvarg’s werewolf meat during an earlier encounter. A normal kill is temporary: the curse brings him back. Witcher.tools and GameBanshee describe this quest behavior.
- Read Morkvarg’s journal and speak with Einar in Larvik. Hear Einar explain his father’s rune-carved wolf fang and its role in undoing the curse. Do not kill Einar before getting this explanation; without it, the fang route is unavailable for the quest, according to Prima Games’ walkthrough and GameBanshee.
- Return to Morkvarg and give him Toradar’s fang. Once the curse is lifted, he turns human and becomes mortal.
- Choose the reward dialogue before attacking. Morkvarg directs Geralt to a moneylender in Novigrad. Follow the clue to collect the treasure, which includes the relic silver sword Deithwen and a werewolf decoction recipe/page, as described by Witcher.tools and GameBanshee.
- Decide whether to kill him. You can attack Morkvarg in human form after receiving the clue; letting him leave is not required to learn where the treasure is. Return to the priestesses in Lofoten for their reward if that objective remains.
When the werewolf-meat route makes sense
Use Morkvarg’s own werewolf meat if you want the direct option that avoids restoring him to human form. This requires having looted the meat in an earlier encounter; select the feeding dialogue when it appears. It lifts the curse and kills him as a werewolf. Witcher.tools lists 50 XP for this outcome, while Prima Games notes Salmian brigandine as an item associated with using his meat; its walkthrough does not list an equivalent item for the fang method. Prima Games’ walkthrough covers that item distinction.

Killing Morkvarg during an early encounter does not permanently end the curse. He returns, so a standard fight is not a substitute for either lifting the curse with the fang or feeding him his own meat. If you choose the fang, the key sequence is to learn its function from Einar first, then ask Morkvarg about the reward before deciding whether to kill him.
