Shokz OpenRun is a lightweight, open-ear bone-conduction headset designed for sports. Shokz lists it at about 26 g, with up to 8 hours of battery life, a quick-charge feature and an IP67 rating. Its main caveats are equally important: Shokz says it is not for swimming, and choosing the right size depends on your head measurement. The figures here are manufacturer specifications, not results from independent or hands-on testing.
What Shokz OpenRun is—and how it works
OpenRun uses Shokz’s 8th Generation bone-conduction technology, a bone-conduction transducer and PremiumPitch 2.0+. Rather than covering the ears or placing earbuds inside the ear canals, it rests outside the ears and sends sound through bone conduction, leaving the canals uncovered.
That open-ear design may suit runners and people who prefer not to wear in-ear headphones. It does not guarantee that you will hear everything around you or make any activity safe: awareness depends on the environment, volume and what else is happening. Keep volume at a level that lets you respond to your surroundings, and follow local rules for headphone use.

Can you swim with Shokz OpenRun?
No. Although the Shokz Canada product page lists an IP67 rating, it explicitly labels OpenRun “Not for swimming.” Treat it as a headset for sweat and wet-weather workouts, not as a swimming headset. If you need audio while swimming, choose a product specifically designed and approved for that use rather than relying on the IP rating alone.

OpenRun or OpenRun Mini: how to choose the size
Shokz’s fit guide recommends standard OpenRun for a head measurement greater than 9.25 inches (23.49 cm), and OpenRun Mini for a measurement at or below 9.25 inches (23.49 cm). These are the manufacturer’s size recommendations. Measure before buying and check that the size you want is available in your region.
- Measure your head according to the method in Shokz’s OpenRun Mini fit guide.
- If the measurement is greater than 9.25 inches (23.49 cm), the guide recommends standard OpenRun.
- If it is 9.25 inches (23.49 cm) or less, the guide recommends OpenRun Mini.
- Confirm the exact variant and regional listing before ordering.
What to compare before buying
OpenRun makes the most sense if you want an open-ear sports headset and its listed runtime, water-use limits and fit work for your needs. Compare it with newer Shokz models using the details that affect your use rather than the model name alone.

Verdict: who should consider Shokz OpenRun?
OpenRun is a plausible choice for runners and workout users who want a lightweight headset that leaves the ear canals uncovered, can work within Shokz’s listed up-to-8-hour battery life and do not need a swimming headset. Its most important buying checks are head size and the distinction between water resistance and suitability for swimming. Treat the weight, battery and charging figures as manufacturer specifications rather than independently verified performance.
