The Shokz OpenDots 2 is a clip-on, open-ear earbud—not a sealed in-ear model. Its fit leaves your ears open to surrounding sound, but it also means no active noise cancellation. Shokz lists up to 10 hours of music playback per charge, IP57 water resistance for the earbuds, and Qi or USB-C charging for the case. Those specifications make it worth considering if you want an open fit; they do not make it a good choice when strong noise isolation is the priority.
What the OpenDots 2 is—and what it is not
Shokz announced the OpenDots 2 on June 4, 2026, as the flagship model in its OpenDots clip-on line. Instead of sitting inside the ear canal, each earbud clips onto the ear. What Hi-Fi describes the design as open earbuds without eartips: outside sound remains audible, and the earbuds do not offer active noise cancellation. That can suit listening while staying aware of your surroundings, but it is a poor fit for anyone who needs a quiet listening bubble on a plane or in a loud workplace.
Shokz markets its sound system as Bassphere 2.0, a spherical acoustic design, and describes MirrorPitch as a sound-direction technology. Those are the manufacturer’s descriptions; they are not independent measurements of sound quality or sound leakage. Shokz also says the earbuds have dynamic ear detection and an improved microphone system: two air-conduction microphones and one bone-conduction microphone. These are design and feature claims, not a guarantee of call performance in every environment.
Specifications Shokz publishes
The specification sheet identifies the product as SHOKZ E320. The figures below are manufacturer-published specifications, not guaranteed results in everyday use.

What independent reviewers say
The most important buying distinction in the available coverage is the open design’s trade-off: you can hear more of your surroundings, but you do not get the isolation or ANC of sealed earbuds. RTINGS notes the OpenDots 2’s IP57 rating compared with IP54 for the first-generation OpenDots One, and mentions multipoint pairing. Tom’s Guide says it tested the earbuds for three weeks; that is its reviewer’s experience, not an independent test conducted for this article.
The coverage cited here does not establish a single independent lab measurement that predicts battery life, sound quality, call clarity, or fit for every wearer. Treat Shokz’s performance figures as stated limits under unspecified conditions, and seek a return policy that lets you check comfort and fit for yourself.

OpenDots 2 vs. OpenDots One: what to compare
OpenDots 2 is the newer model, but “better” depends on which feature matters to you. RTINGS identifies one clear specification difference: the OpenDots 2 earbuds are rated IP57, while the OpenDots One earbuds are rated IP54. That comparison concerns the earbuds; do not assume the case shares the earbud rating.
Before replacing or choosing between the two, check the exact details that affect your use: how each clip fits your ears, whether the open design gives you enough awareness, battery claims, call features, multipoint behavior, codecs, charging options, and current local prices. The material cited here does not provide a complete, like-for-like specification table for OpenDots One, so it does not support a broader claim that every aspect of the second generation is an upgrade.

It may suit you if
- You prefer a clip-on fit that does not seal the ear canal.
- You want to remain more aware of nearby sounds while listening.
- Qi charging for the case, multipoint, or the listed water-resistance rating matters to you.
Consider another style if
- You need active noise cancellation or strong passive isolation for travel or noisy surroundings.
- You rely on one codec in particular: Shokz lists SBC and AAC, not a wider codec set.
- You cannot comfortably wear a clip-on design; fit is personal, and published specifications cannot settle that question.
