The Shark PowerDetect Transformer is a corded upright that converts into stick and handheld configurations—not a cordless vacuum. That flexibility makes it useful for whole-floor cleaning and above-floor jobs, but it comes with real tradeoffs: reviewers found upright mode heavy and loud, stick mode has less suction and a much smaller bin, and one review’s headline promises a missed “spot” without identifying what that spot is. There is no evidence to say what area it means.
What is the Shark PowerDetect Transformer?
It is a corded vacuum built around three configurations: upright, stick, and handheld. SharkNinja’s June 30, 2026 announcement says the design does away with the traditional bulky hose and uses its PowerDetect and Reveal technologies; those are the manufacturer’s descriptions, not independent performance findings. The intended uses are straightforward: upright mode for regular floor cleaning, stick mode for reaching under furniture and into tighter spaces, and handheld mode for stairs, cars, and other above-floor tasks. SharkNinja’s launch announcement described it as a system that adapts to different cleaning jobs.
How do the three modes work?
Upright
The main upright configuration carries the larger dust cup and is the more powerful floor-cleaning setup in Vacuum Wars’ testing. T3’s UK reviewer found it effective on hardwood and carpet, though the reviewer considered the upright heavy to maneuver.

Converting to stick mode makes the vacuum easier to extend beneath furniture and into tighter areas. The tradeoff is lower measured suction and a small debris bin. Vacuum Wars measured 0.20 kPa usable suction and 43 CFM airflow at the stick wand, compared with stronger results in upright mode; these are that publication’s test measurements, not official specifications.

- INTELLIGENT CLEANING: PowerDetect Technology automatically responds to embedded dirt, edges, floor type, and cleaning direction to optimize suction and cleaning performance throughout your home.
- PERFECT FOR PETS: Designed for homes with pets, the self-cleaning brushroll delivers powerful pet hair pickup with no hair wrap, while the included HairPro Self-Cleaning Pet Power Brush removes embedded pet hair from stairs, upholstery, and furniture.
Handheld
The handheld setup is intended for stairs, car interiors, furniture, and other controlled jobs. T3’s reviewer praised its usefulness on stairs and in car-seat crevices. The assembly has an elongated shape, which Vacuum Wars lists as a compromise for some handheld tasks.
What happens to the dirt, and how often will you empty it?
The vacuum uses separate debris collection: the upright has a main canister, while stick and handheld configurations use a smaller bin. Returning the handheld assembly to the main unit transfers debris into the main cup, an arrangement T3 considered convenient. That does not make the small bin a non-issue: Vacuum Wars measured it at about 0.4 L, versus approximately 1.04 L for the upright bin, so it can fill quickly during stick-mode cleaning.
Rank #2
- DUOCLEAN DETECT: The two-brushroll system with Intelli-Sense sensors automatically reacts and adapts brushroll speed for optimal performance.
- FLOOR DETECT: The Intelli-Sense ultrasonic sensor detects the type of floor you're cleaning, and Shark POWERDETECT automatically adapts brushroll speed for optimal performance on all surfaces.
- DIRECTION DETECT: The Intelli-Sense directional sensor automatically recognizes the direction you are vacuuming and POWERDETECT directs its powerful suction forward or reverse for maximum cleaning in both directions.
- SELF-STANDING: After cleaning, POWERDETECT stands and stores easily without falling over.
- ULTRA-LIGHTWEIGHT: Weighs less than 10 pounds for easy lifting and maneuverability.
Capacity figures vary by source and market. T3 gives the UK model’s main bin as approximately 1.3 L, while Vacuum Wars reports approximately 1.04 L for its US LX5002 test unit. SharkNinja Canada lists 1.04 L for model LX5002C. These figures should not be treated as one universal capacity; check the exact model sold in your region.

How well does it clean?
Floor pickup and pile height
T3’s reviewer reported good results on hardwood and carpet, while Vacuum Wars found strong practical pickup, carpet deep-cleaning, and crevice results in upright-mode evaluations. TechGearLab’s October 6, 2026 comparison reported its LX5002 test results as 92% hardwood pickup, 95% low-pile pickup, and 62% high-pile pickup. Those percentages are results from TechGearLab’s comparative testing, not guaranteed outcomes in every home. The gap between low- and high-pile results is worth considering if thick carpet is a major part of your routine.

- DESIGNED TO CAPTURE MORE* DIRT, DUST, & DEBRIS: Shark’s redesigned DuoClean Detect nozzle features 2X brushrolls for ALL floors* and ULTRA-POWERFUL hair pickup.(*vs. original DuoClean nozzle)
- 4X INTELLIGENT TECHNOLOGIES THAT DETECT & REACT TO YOUR HOME: While vacuuming, PowerDetect will detect hidden dirt, edges & corners, carpets & floors, and cleaning direction then automatically boosts power when dirt & debris are detected.
Pet hair and noise
TechGearLab reported 77% pet-hair pickup and a 76 dBA noise reading for its LX5002 test unit. In its five-vacuum comparison, the Transformer had particularly strong pet-hair pickup among the listed models, but its high-pile result was lower than those shown for the Kenmore Intuition and Eureka QuickShift. T3 also described the vacuum as loud and said dust pickup was less effective than hoped. These are separate reviewers’ observations and test results, not a single universal verdict.
Illumination and attachments
T3 praised the bright LED illumination and found the supplied accessories useful, although the reviewer sometimes had difficulty removing them. Package contents are not consistent across the sources: T3 describes a UK package with multiple tools, while Vacuum Wars says its purchased US package included only a crevice tool and notes that other packages may include pet tools. Confirm the accessory list for the exact regional SKU before buying.

Is it a good fit for your home?
- Consider it if you want a corded system that can handle floors, stairs, cars, and above-floor cleaning without relying on one fixed vacuum configuration.
- Think carefully if pushing or carrying a heavy upright, operating a loud vacuum, or cleaning thick carpet is a frequent concern.
- Expect more interruptions in stick mode if you clean large areas or collect a lot of debris, given its smaller bin and lower measured suction than upright mode.
- Check the listing closely if you need specific pet tools or other accessories; included tools vary by package.
It is also a corded machine, so it does not offer cordless freedom. The benefit is that its three configurations are available within one system; whether that outweighs the cord and mode-specific limitations depends on how and where you clean.
What did the “one spot” in the headline refer to?
T3’s September 11, 2026 review uses the headline “This 3-in-1 vacuum covered my whole house – except this one spot,” but the accessible review does not identify the spot. Its stated reservations are the upright’s weight, noise, and dust pickup. None of those establishes a particular missed room, surface, or corner, so the headline’s “one spot” should not be read as a documented product limitation.
Price and availability
Reported prices are snapshots, not current offers. T3 listed £499.99 in the UK and $529.99 in the US in its September 11, 2026 review. SharkNinja’s June 30, 2026 announcement said US sales began at $529, with broader retailer availability to follow. Vacuum Wars displayed a $549.99 sale price against $649.99 on its page when crawled, and TechGearLab listed $650 as the list price.
