Choose the iRobot Roomba j7+ if avoiding cords, socks, shoes, and certain solid pet-waste accidents is your main concern. Choose the Shark AI Ultra AV2501S if you prefer a bagless self-empty base, LiDAR mapping, and advertised Matrix Clean passes. Those are differences in documented features—not proof that either robot cleans better overall. No direct comparative test of these exact models establishes a winner.

Which robot is better for homes with pets and clutter?
The j7+ has the clearer documented case if your floors often have cords, socks, shoes, or the risk of solid cat or dog waste. iRobot says the robot can send an obstacle photo to the app, where you can tell it how to handle that obstacle in the future. These features do not make avoidance infallible.
Understand the pet-waste promise
iRobot’s Pet Owner Official Promise is a limited replacement promise, not a guarantee against every mess or damage. Under the official terms, the feature must be enabled with the iRobot HOME app. The promise is for the original owner, applies for up to one year, and requires proof of purchase and an eligible new j-series product bought during the offer period directly from iRobot or an authorized seller in the United States or Canada. It covers failure to avoid solid cat or dog waste; it excludes non-solid waste, waste from other animals, hairballs, vomit, and other materials. The remedy is a replacement product, not payment for floor or carpet damage or cleanup.
Shark describes object detection and avoidance, but the reviewed product information does not establish the same specific object-recognition list or a comparable pet-waste promise for the AV2501S. That absence is not proof that the Shark will collide with a particular object; it means the documented assurance is different.

Which self-empty system suits you?
Shark’s AV2501S uses a bagless HEPA self-empty base advertised for up to 30 days of debris. iRobot’s j7+ uses enclosed bags in its Clean Base, advertised for up to 60 days. These are manufacturers’ capacity claims, not guaranteed intervals: how often a base needs attention can vary by home and use. Prefer Shark if avoiding replacement bags is important; prefer iRobot if you want the enclosed-bag format and its longer advertised interval.
Shark’s filtration claim
Shark says the AV2501S HEPA filtration captures 99.97% of dust and allergens down to 0.3 microns. That is a manufacturer claim, not an independent measurement. Shark lists the robot, HEPA self-empty base, filter, and side brush in the package.

How do their navigation features differ?
Shark advertises 360-degree LiDAR mapping and Matrix Clean, which makes multiple passes. iRobot describes PrecisionVision Navigation alongside smart mapping that can direct cleaning by room or area. These descriptions help distinguish the approaches, but they do not establish which robot maps more accurately, covers a room faster, or picks up more debris.

What should you check before buying?
- Confirm the iRobot configuration. The j7+ is the self-emptying version. iRobot says the Clean Base is sold separately for the non-plus j7. Make sure the listing is for a j7+ with the base if that is what you intend to buy.
- Compare current prices for the exact models. SharkNinja displayed $549.99 for the AV2501S when accessed in 2026, but that is a volatile listing price. A matched current j7+ price was not established, so the available prices do not support a reliable value verdict.
- Include ownership supplies. The Shark base is bagless; the iRobot Clean Base uses enclosed bags. Check current supply availability and costs, as well as replacement-part compatibility. Shark lists items such as a pre-motor filter (XPRFRV2500) and dust bin (139KY2500); verify compatibility for the exact model before ordering.
- Check warranty terms for your purchase. Shark’s U.S. product page lists a one-year product warranty and two years for parts. Confirm the applicable terms for your location and seller.
Is there a tested cleaning winner?
Not on the evidence available for these exact configurations. No direct comparison establishes pickup, battery life, noise, or long-term reliability for the AV2501S versus the Roomba j7+. An RTINGS comparison covers the Shark AV2501S and a different Shark model, the RV2001—not the j7+—so it cannot answer which of these two robots performs better against the other.
