Shahnaz Husain’s reported henna-and-egg mask combines henna powder, whole eggs and warm water, with optional black tea or coconut oil. The recipe appeared in a Hindustan Times interview-based article published October 1, 2026. It is a routine Husain shared—not evidence that the mask caused her thick hair or will make someone else’s hair grow thicker.

The amounts below are the directions attributed to Husain in Hindustan Times. They are recipe instructions, not independently tested results.
- Henna powder: 5–7 tablespoons, adjusted for hair length.
- Eggs: 1–5 whole eggs, also adjusted for hair length. The article suggests egg whites for an oily scalp and yolks for strands needing moisture.
- Warm water: Enough to make a smooth paste.
- Optional for color: Cooled brewed black tea, suggested for richer tones.
- Optional for dryness: 1 teaspoon coconut oil if hair is prone to dryness.
How to prepare and apply it
- Mix the henna powder with warm water to form a smooth paste. Add cooled brewed black tea for richer color tones or coconut oil for dryness, if desired.
- Cover the mixture and let it rest for 2–4 hours.
- Beat in the egg or eggs immediately before application.
- Section the hair and apply the mixture from roots to ends, saturating it throughout.
- Leave it on for 45 minutes to one hour.
- Rinse thoroughly with plain water, then wash with a gentle shampoo.
The article offers egg whites and yolks, tea and coconut oil as choices for different stated needs, but reports no comparative results showing that one version works better than another.

Does the mask explain Husain’s thick hair or make hair grow?
Hindustan Times attributes to Husain the view that the treatment can condition hair, strengthen hair follicles and improve appearance. The article also describes henna as conditioning and tinting hair and egg proteins as fortifying strands against breakage. It does not provide a clinical trial, measured hair-density result or statistic showing that this recipe grows hair or increases thickness. Treat the “secret behind” framing as an account of a routine, not proof of cause or a guaranteed outcome.

Henna and hair-dye safety
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says henna is a plant-derived color approved for hair-dye use in the United States. It warns that products marketed as “black henna” often contain added p-phenylenediamine (PPD), a coal-tar hair dye that can cause dangerous skin reactions in some people. A label saying “henna” does not establish that a product is pure henna: check its ingredients and that it is intended for hair use. See the FDA’s henna and black henna fact sheet.
The FDA’s hair-dye skin-test directions apply to hair-dye products used as their labels direct; they are not a validated testing protocol for this homemade mask. Its cosmetic-allergen guidance advises checking ingredient panels and avoiding known or suspected allergens; patch testing is a diagnostic procedure a health professional may recommend. What Husain says about diet
The Hindustan Times article also attributes two general diet comments to Husain: “A balanced diet provides the nutrients required for normal hair growth and overall maintenance,” and “Rather than relying on a single ‘hair food’ or quick supplement, the emphasis should always be on a varied, nutritious diet and adequate hydration.” These are her statements as reported in the interview, not evidence that the mask or a particular diet will produce a specific hair result.
