What reportedly happened on the FlyDubai flight
The Associated Press reported on October 2, 2026, that the flight was traveling from Dubai to Tel Aviv when it began a steep descent and was diverted to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. According to AP’s account of Machchhar’s remarks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the captain was stabbed by his co-pilot. Despite his injuries, Machchhar opened the cockpit door, allowing passengers to enter and restrain the attacker. The aircraft landed safely.
Hindustan Times identifies the flight as FZ1073 and the aircraft as a Boeing 737 MAX 8. The passenger totals reported by the two outlets conflict: Hindustan Times says 174 people were aboard, including 27 children, while AP reports 182. The discrepancy is unresolved, so neither figure can be treated here as a confirmed total.

How Khan’s praise differs from Modi’s response
Khan’s post praised Machchhar’s courage and duty, and expressed pride and wishes for his recovery. AP separately reported that Modi told the captain his “courage, patience, and presence of mind” saved many lives. That wording is Modi’s reported praise, not part of Khan’s post.
