Sevilla defender Marcão was forced off after only a few minutes against Aston Villa in the Antonio Puerta Trophy match, according to AS. AS reported, citing Sevilla’s medical staff, that he suffered an injury to the right rectus femoris. Further evaluation was pending, so there is no confirmed return date.
What happened to Marcão against Aston Villa?
Marcão came off injured early in Sevilla’s Antonio Puerta Trophy fixture against Aston Villa. Sevilla had included him in its 23-man squad, announced on 1 October 2026; the match was scheduled for Friday at 20:30 CEST, according to the club’s squad announcement.
What injury did Marcão suffer?
AS reported that Sevilla’s medical staff described an injury to the right rectus femoris—the muscle at the front of the thigh. The report said his condition remained pending further evaluation. It did not establish a specific severity or confirm a tear.

How does this compare with Marcão’s earlier injuries?
Sevilla announced in January 2026 that Marcão had undergone surgery for a fracture of the navicular bone in his left foot (club update). In a separate preseason update on 11 July 2026, Sevilla reported edema in his right quadriceps and said his condition was pending evolution (club update). The available reports do not establish that either earlier episode is related to the current right-thigh injury.
