Sonova Holding AG operates Sennheiser’s consumer headphones under license of the Sennheiser brand; Sennheiser electronic SE & Co. KG continues to operate the professional audio business. As of 7 October 2026, Sonova’s latest annual report describes a planned divestiture of Consumer Hearing, with completion expected during FY 2026/27—not a completed sale. There is no single verified country of manufacture for every Sennheiser headphone: origin depends on the model and potentially the individual unit.

Who owns Sennheiser?

“Sennheiser” can refer to the brand, the professional audio company, or the consumer business that uses the brand. They are not all operated by the same company.

Business Who operates it What that means
Consumer headphones and other consumer devices Sonova Holding AG Sonova operates the consumer business under license of the Sennheiser brand, according to the Sennheiser newsroom.
Professional audio Sennheiser electronic SE & Co. KG This is the business associated with professional products and solutions, including microphones, meeting solutions, streaming technologies, and monitoring systems, as described by the Sennheiser newsroom.

Sonova announced an agreement to acquire Sennheiser’s Consumer Division on 7 May 2021. The announcement described the division as serving private customers with headphones and hearables and included a Sennheiser brand license. Its figures of approximately €250 million in annual sales and around 600 employees referred to that division at the time; they are historical, not current. (Sonova’s 2021 announcement.)

Has Sonova sold the consumer headphone business?

As of 7 October 2026, Sonova’s latest annual report describes Consumer Hearing as a discontinued operation and disposal group held for sale. It records Sonova’s 23 March 2026 announcement of its intention to divest the business and says completion is expected during FY 2026/27. The report does not establish that the sale has closed or identify a buyer. (Sonova’s 2025/26 annual report.)

Are Sennheiser headphones made in Germany?

Some model-specific evidence points to Germany, but it does not establish that all Sennheiser headphones are made there. The official HD 800 S manual includes an image of a product label marked “MADE IN GERMANY.” That label is evidence for the example shown, not proof of the origin of every HD 800 S production run or the whole Sennheiser range. Where are Sennheiser headphones manufactured?

The available evidence does not support one country as the manufacturing origin for every Sennheiser headphone. Company-level factory information should not be treated as a definitive origin list for consumer models.

In a May 2022 production announcement, Sennheiser said its Tullamore plant transferred with the Consumer Business to Sonova at the beginning of March 2022. The same announcement discusses continuing professional-audio production in Germany and Romania, including HD 25 and HD 280 manufacturing in Brașov. Those product references are in the professional-audio discussion after the transfer, so they do not show that all Sennheiser headphones—or all consumer headphones—are made in Romania. How to check the origin of a specific pair

  1. Check the product itself. Look for a country-of-origin marking on the headphones or their label.
  2. Review the packaging. The box or product label may identify the origin for that unit.
  3. Find current documentation for the exact model. Confirm the model name and document version; an example for one model should not be applied to another.
  4. Use the unit-specific marking when available. If a manual and a particular pair do not establish the same production run or unit origin, the unit’s own marking is the more relevant evidence for that pair.
