Are the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 5 the best AirPods Pro alternative? They are a compelling option if you value Sennheiser’s sound, compatibility with iPhone and Android, and replaceable batteries. But the available reviews do not establish an overall winner: fit is personal, and the ANC is good for everyday use rather than class-leading. Your phone, ears, and priorities matter more than a blanket ranking.
What you get with the Momentum True Wireless 5
Sennheiser announced the Momentum True Wireless 5 on August 20, 2026. The earbuds combine adaptive active noise cancellation (ANC), transparency mode, Bluetooth 6.0, multipoint, Dolby Atmos-optimized head tracking, and an eight-band EQ in the Smart Control Plus app. Sennheiser lists aptX Adaptive and aptX Lossless support, as well as an aptX Adaptive high-resolution option up to 24-bit/96 kHz. Which codec you actually use depends on the source device, codec negotiation, and content; the specifications do not mean every phone can deliver every option. The earbuds are designed to work with both iPhone and Android. Sennheiser’s US product page has the current manufacturer listing, while its launch announcement describes the new features.
The official US package listing includes the earbuds, charging case, USB-C cable, XS, S, M, and L ear tips, a battery replacement tool, and documentation. Sennheiser describes the sound as a refinement of the previous generation, with cleaner bass, a less forward midrange, and more upper-treble air. That is the manufacturer’s characterization, not an independent measurement. Its support information also identifies a 7 mm TrueResponse dynamic driver, wind behavior, and AI voice isolation.

How do the sound and ANC perform?
Sound: a strong point in the reviews
Tom’s Guide praised the sound in its September 3, 2026 review. What Hi-Fi?, reviewing the earbuds on September 24, described them as spacious, detailed, and precise. These are reviewer impressions, not a guarantee that the tuning will suit every listener. Sound preference is subjective, and a secure tip seal can also affect what you hear.
#1 Best Overall
- Signature Sennheiser Sound, Refined: Experience brilliant, emotionally rich audio with a high fidelity audiophile-grade 7mm TrueResponse driver, meticulously tuned to deliver exceptional clarity, detail, and natural balance at any volume.
- Audiophile Grade Wireless Audio: Advanced Bluetooth codecs including aptX Lossless, aptX Adaptive, and AAC preserve every detail, so music, movies, and games sound immersive, dynamic, and true to the source.
- Exceptional Battery Life: Enjoy up to 40 hours of playtime with on-the-go charging from the case. A replaceable battery extends product lifespan, helping reduce electronic waste while delivering years of premium sound.
- Built For Life: The secure-fitting ergonomic design assures superb wearing comfort and uncompromised audio enjoyment in any environment. Dust- and splash-resistant protection (IP54 rating) lets your audio accompany all your adventures.
- Clearer Calls, Smarter Microphones: Digital beamforming microphones, plus a bone conduction mic, and AI voice isolation keep your voice clear and natural on calls, even in busy environments, at home or on the move.
ANC: capable, but not a class leader
Tom’s Guide found the ANC useful for daily city and office listening, but not class-leading. If maximum noise suppression is your main reason to buy, that qualification matters. Consider how much you value the reviewed sound alongside noise cancellation, transparency, wind handling, and calls rather than treating any one feature as a universal verdict. Read Tom’s Guide’s review for its hands-on account.
Are the Momentum True Wireless 5 better than AirPods Pro?
There is no evidence here to declare them the best AirPods Pro alternative for everyone or to claim a controlled head-to-head winner. Treat them as a premium alternative whose appeal depends on the trade-offs below. AirPods Pro and Sennheiser’s earbuds differ in physical design and feature ecosystems, so the better fit depends on your actual devices and ears.

| Decision | What to weigh |
|---|---|
| Fit and comfort | The Sennheisers use an in-ear, bean-shaped design rather than a stem design. They include four tip sizes, but tip sizes do not ensure the body will suit every ear. |
| Sound | Choose based on your preference for the Sennheiser sound presentation; reviewers praised its detail and spaciousness, but those judgments are subjective. |
| Noise control | The ANC was judged good for routine city and office use, not class-leading. Consider transparency, wind behavior, and call needs as well. |
| Phone and features | Sennheiser lists iPhone and Android compatibility, but codec and spatial-audio features depend on device and content support. Do not assume aptX Lossless or the high-resolution option is available on every phone. |
| Battery serviceability | Sennheiser says both earbud and case batteries can be replaced. That may matter if you want a product designed for battery service rather than treating earbuds as disposable. |
| Price and availability | Compare the current price and return terms in your country; review prices are snapshots, not checkout guarantees. |
What Hi-Fi? discussed the Sennheisers alongside the Technics EAH-AZ100, Sony WF-1000XM6, and Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen). That is editorial context, not a laboratory comparison establishing a winner. Its review gives its own listening assessment.
Will they fit small ears?
Fit is the biggest reason to be cautious if you have small ears. Tom’s Guide’s reviewer reported discomfort from the earbud body or nozzle, while colleagues with average-size ears reported comfort. That does not predict how they will feel in your ears, but it makes a return option valuable. Try the supplied tip sizes and check the seller’s return policy before buying.

- Note : If the size of the earbud tips does not match the size of your ear canals or the headset is not worn properly in your ears, you may not obtain the correct sound qualities or call performance. Change the earbud tips to ones that fit more snugly in your ear.Specific uses for product : Travel,Sports and Exercise

How long does the battery last?
Sennheiser rates playback at up to 12 hours per earbud and up to 40 hours with the charging case. Tom’s Guide reports those figures with ANC off. Treat them as rated maximums, not a promise for every listening pattern; real playback time can vary with settings and use. The manufacturer’s product listing provides its specification.
Can you replace the batteries?
According to Sennheiser, users can replace the batteries in both earbuds and the charging case. The company identifies BA 501 for the two earbud batteries and BA 502 for the case battery. It lists availability in the EU and selected additional countries, but that does not establish local stock or a replacement price. Check Sennheiser’s support information for compatibility and country details before relying on this option.

Are they water-resistant?
Sennheiser says the earbuds meet IP54 and are splash resistant. The company does not recommend submerging them, wearing them in the shower, or rinsing them under running water. The rating is not permission to expose them to those conditions.
