For most people who prioritize noise cancellation, calls, and easy packing, choose the Sony WH-1000XM6. Reviewers find its noise isolation stronger, and it is lighter and folds fully. Choose the Sennheiser MOMENTUM 5 Wireless if longer stated ANC-on battery life, a battery you can replace yourself, or aptX Lossless support with a compatible source matters more to you. Sound and fit are personal, so neither is a universal winner.

Battery figures are manufacturer claims, not a controlled head-to-head test: Sennheiser specifies its iPhone and mid-volume condition, while Sony’s cited page does not provide the same test detail. Which one has better noise cancellation and call quality?
The Sony WH-1000XM6 is the safer pick if blocking noise and making calls are your top priorities. Sony describes an adaptive system with 12 microphones and its QN3 noise-canceling processor. RTINGS and What Hi-Fi? both rate Sony’s noise isolation more highly than the MOMENTUM 5; What Hi-Fi? also favors Sony for call quality.
Sennheiser says the MOMENTUM 5’s ANC can reduce ambient voice chatter up to three times more effectively than its predecessor. That is a manufacturer claim, not an independent, direct measurement against the XM6. If you spend a lot of time around voices, trains, or traffic, the independent comparisons give Sony the clearer edge.

Which lasts longer, and can you replace the battery?
Sennheiser claims up to 57 hours of Bluetooth playback with ANC enabled, measured with an iPhone at mid volume. Sony claims up to 30 hours with noise canceling on. The test conditions are not identical, but Sennheiser’s stated figure is substantially longer.
The MOMENTUM 5 also has a practical serviceability advantage: Sennheiser describes its 700 mAh battery as exchangeable and says users can replace it themselves. The cited Sony materials do not establish whether the XM6 battery is user-replaceable, so that should not be read as proof that it cannot be replaced.

Sound character
There is no objective winner for sound preference. What Hi-Fi? describes Sony’s presentation as more energetic overall and praises the Sennheiser’s midrange. Treat these as that reviewer’s listening impressions, not a guarantee that one will sound better to you. If possible, audition both or buy from a retailer with a return policy that works for you.

Codecs and spatial audio
Sennheiser lists support for the aptX codec family, including aptX Lossless through Snapdragon Sound, and announced head-tracked spatial audio through a day-one update. Lossless playback depends on a compatible source device and configuration; the feature name alone does not ensure that your phone or computer will use it.
Sony conveniences
Sony lists multipoint and features including Speak-to-Chat, Quick Attention, DSEE Extreme, and 360 Reality Audio. These can make the XM6 more attractive if you switch between devices or want Sony’s listening and ambient-sound options. Feature availability can depend on device, app, or setup.
