The Sennheiser MOMENTUM 5 Wireless is a strong premium headphone for listeners who prioritize customizable sound, long battery life, and a battery they can replace themselves. Its 57-hour rated runtime is unusually generous, but that is a manufacturer figure under specific conditions—not a promise for every listening setup. Reviewers praised its sound and useful noise reduction, while noting that its roughly 290 g weight, fit, and ANC performance may not suit everyone.
Is the Sennheiser MOMENTUM 5 Wireless worth considering?
Yes, if you want full-size wireless headphones with extensive sound controls and long intervals between charges. The exchangeable battery is a meaningful longevity advantage, and reviews describe a capable, balanced presentation. The main reasons to hesitate are the headphones’ weight, ANC that does not consistently silence voices or transport noise, and a default sound that may need adjustment to match your preference.
Price is a key part of the decision. TechCrunch reported $399.99 and Amazon and Sennheiser as retailers on September 27, 2026; SoundGuys lists $399.95 as the original price. These are dated price references, not live offers. Check the current price, stock, and listing identity before buying.
How does the MOMENTUM 5 sound?
TechCrunch reviewer Aisha Malik, after several weeks with the headphones, described natural-sounding vocals and bass that was strong without taking over. She found nearby voices and chatter noticeably quieter with ANC on, although plane-engine noise was not fully blocked. SoundGuys also praised the headphones’ low distortion. These are reviewers’ listening impressions, not a guarantee that the tuning will suit every listener.

- Exceptional Battery Life: Enjoy up to 57 hours of playtime with ANC on. A replaceable battery extends product lifespan, helping reduce electronic waste while delivering years of premium sound.
- Immerse or Stay Aware: Block out the world completely or engage Natural Transparency to hear your surroundings naturally, without breaking immersion. Enhanced Anti Wind Mode keeps outdoor listening clear.
TechRadar praised the soundstage and personalization options but found that the default sound needed tuning to reach the reviewer’s preferred result. Sennheiser’s Smart Control Plus app provides an eight-band equalizer and Sound Personalization; the two features cannot be used at the same time, according to Sennheiser support. If you prefer a particular tonal balance, plan to spend time adjusting the app rather than assuming the default profile will be ideal.
How effective is its noise cancellation?
Sennheiser says the MOMENTUM 5’s ANC is up to three times stronger than the MOMENTUM 4’s in midrange frequencies. That is a manufacturer claim with a specific frequency scope, not a general finding that it beats every competing headphone. Review impressions are more qualified: TechCrunch heard a reduction in nearby chatter but still noticed plane-engine noise, while TechRadar said everyday conversation and traffic could remain audible.

That distinction matters when choosing headphones. The MOMENTUM 5 can make a noisy environment more manageable, but the available reviews do not support treating it as a dependable way to erase speech, traffic, or low-frequency travel noise. If those sounds are your main reason for buying ANC headphones, compare listening tests focused on the noise you encounter.

Sennheiser rates the MOMENTUM 5 for up to 57 hours of Bluetooth music playback with ANC enabled. The stated test condition is an iPhone at mid volume, so actual runtime will vary with volume, source, settings, and use. TechCrunch’s reviewer described battery life as impressive and said the rated figure held up during her testing; SoundGuys also lists battery life among the strengths it found during a two-week test of a company-provided unit.

- Adaptive ANC & Transparency Mode: Powerful noise cancellation blocks distractions without degrading clarity, dynamics, or balance. Transparency Mode instantly lets in surrounding sounds when you need to stay aware.
- Listen for days, not hours: A class-leading 60-hour battery keeps you going through long trips or work weeks. Just 10 minutes of fast charging adds up to 7 hours of playtime, ideal for when you’re on the move.
The 700 mAh lithium-ion battery is exchangeable, and Sennheiser says users can replace it. That supports a repairability advantage over headphones with a permanently built-in cell, but it does not establish that replacement batteries are currently sold in every market. Check local part availability before making replaceability the deciding factor.
Sennheiser’s specification page gives approximately two hours for a full charge and up to seven hours of playback from a 10-minute charge. A separate Sennheiser support FAQ gives a different fast-charge estimate—approximately ten hours from ten minutes with ANC on—so the figures conflict. The conservative specification-page figure is the safer one to use unless Sennheiser confirms which estimate applies to your unit and conditions.

Are the MOMENTUM 5 comfortable for long sessions?
Sennheiser lists the headphones at approximately 290 g, and SoundGuys lists 291 g. TechCrunch’s reviewer found them heavier than the Sony WH-1000XM6 and less comfortable than some Sony or Apple alternatives. Comfort is personal and depends on fit and session length, so the weight is worth considering if you wear headphones for hours at a time.

How does the MOMENTUM 5 compare with the MOMENTUM 4?
Sennheiser’s own comparison indicates that the newer model trades a slightly lower maximum battery-life rating for a replaceable cell, newer listed Bluetooth, Dolby Atmos, and revised ANC. The values below are manufacturer specifications and claims, not independent head-to-head test results.
| Feature | MOMENTUM 5 Wireless | MOMENTUM 4 |
|---|---|---|
| Bluetooth | 5.4 | 5.2 |
| Rated battery life with ANC on | Up to 57 hours; Sennheiser’s stated test condition is an iPhone at mid volume. | Up to 60 hours. |
| Battery | 700 mAh exchangeable lithium-ion cell; user-replaceable, according to Sennheiser. | Built-in battery. |
| Dolby Atmos | Listed by Sennheiser. | Not listed in Sennheiser’s comparison table. |
| Playback from a 10-minute charge | Up to seven hours on Sennheiser’s specification page; a separate support FAQ gives a conflicting estimate. | Up to six hours. |
The MOMENTUM 4’s longer rated maximum may matter if your main aim is the longest stated interval between charges. The MOMENTUM 5’s replaceable cell may matter more if you want the option to renew the battery later. Neither comparison settles how the headphones sound or feel to you, and the actual codec available depends on your source device.
Who should buy the MOMENTUM 5 Wireless?
- Consider it if customizable sound, long rated battery life, and a user-replaceable battery are high priorities.
- Try it on first if possible if you are sensitive to headphone weight or expect to wear them for long stretches.
- Compare alternatives if your top requirement is especially strong suppression of voices, traffic, or aircraft noise.
- Check your source device if you are buying for a specific Bluetooth codec; the headphone’s codec list alone cannot ensure your device will use a particular one.
- Check local availability if future battery replacement is central to your decision, because user replaceability does not guarantee a spare cell is sold in your market.
For a gaming setup, Sennheiser says gaming mode is available with the separately sold BTD 700 dongle and lists the dongle as compatible. Confirm that the dongle works with your intended device and is available where you live before relying on that setup.
