The Sennheiser MOMENTUM 5 Wireless is a feature-rich over-ear headphone with a long manufacturer-rated battery life, flexible wired and wireless connections, and adjustable sound. Its main uncertainty is noise cancellation: Sennheiser advertises a substantial improvement over the MOMENTUM 4, but independent reviewers in this source set criticized its real-world ANC. Fit and default sound also drew mixed reactions, so it is best suited to buyers who can try it or use a return option—not those choosing solely on the promise of stronger noise blocking.
What the MOMENTUM 5 Wireless offers
Sennheiser announced the over-ear MOMENTUM 5 Wireless in May 2026. Its launch announcement listed Black, White, and Denim, with a US suggested retail price of $399.99 at launch. That is historical MSRP, not a statement of current price or availability. Sennheiser product information and the launch announcement are the manufacturer sources for product and launch details.

According to Sennheiser support, the headphones have a 42 mm dynamic driver, Bluetooth 5.4, adaptive ANC, Transparency Mode, four call microphones, and eight ANC microphones. They support SBC, AAC, and aptX-family codecs, including aptX Lossless, as well as Dolby Atmos spatial audio. Codec availability and benefit depend on the source device and connection. Sennheiser says Bluetooth 6.0 is planned through a later firmware upgrade; it should not be treated as an already universal feature. The Smart Control Plus app is available for iOS and Android, with app features subject to change. Sennheiser Hearing Support
Pros
Long rated battery life, with a replaceable battery
Sennheiser rates playback at up to 57 hours with ANC enabled and says the battery can be replaced by the user using a Phillips screwdriver and a new battery. That is the manufacturer’s maximum rating and guidance, not a guarantee that every listener or use pattern will reach 57 hours. Tom’s Guide also highlighted battery life and replaceability in its review. Sennheiser Hearing Support Tom’s Guide review
#1 Best Overall
- Signature Sennheiser Sound, Refined: Experience brilliant, emotionally rich audio with a high fidelity 42mm HD 600 inspired driver, meticulously tuned to deliver exceptional clarity, detail, and natural balance at any volume.
- Reference Grade Wireless Audio: Advanced Bluetooth codecs including aptX Lossless, aptX Adaptive, and AAC preserve every detail, so music, movies, and games sound immersive, dynamic, and true to the source.
- Best Ever Sennheiser Noise Cancellation: Hybrid adaptive ANC is up to 3× stronger in the midrange than MOMENTUM 4 Wireless, powered by 8 digital microphones for deeper quiet and fewer distractions wherever you listen.
- Exceptional Battery Life: Enjoy up to 57 hours of playtime with ANC on. A replaceable battery extends product lifespan, helping reduce electronic waste while delivering years of premium sound.
- Immerse or Stay Aware: Block out the world completely or engage Natural Transparency to hear your surroundings naturally, without breaking immersion. Enhanced Anti Wind Mode keeps outdoor listening clear.
Useful connection options for work and listening
The MOMENTUM 5 supports Bluetooth multipoint for two devices, USB-C digital audio, and analog listening with the supplied 2.5 mm-to-3.5 mm cable. USB-C playback-only mode supports up to 24-bit/96 kHz, according to Sennheiser support. The headphones must be powered on for analog use. These options can help if you switch between a computer and phone or prefer a wired connection, but supported codec and audio behavior still depend on the source and mode. Sennheiser says its BTD 700 adapter can enable aptX for a source device that does not provide it natively. Sennheiser Hearing Support
Sound can be personalized
The Smart Control Plus app provides EQ and personalization tools, according to Sennheiser support and reviewer descriptions. TechRadar said it adjusted the sound to suit its preferences; Tom’s Guide also noted treble issues with some genres. The app gives listeners a way to tune the presentation, but buyers who want a sound they love without adjustment may be less satisfied. TechRadar review Tom’s Guide review
Reviewers praised aspects of its presentation
TechRadar praised the stereo field, while What Hi-Fi? characterized the sound as rich and expressive. These are subjective listening impressions, and they do not cancel out other reviewers’ criticisms of the default tonal balance. TechRadar review What Hi-Fi? review

Cons and trade-offs
Independent assessments of ANC are a concern
Sennheiser says the MOMENTUM 5’s midrange-frequency cancellation is up to three times more effective than the MOMENTUM 4’s. That is a manufacturer comparison. In contrast, Tom’s Guide found the ANC poor in its tests, and TechRadar also criticized its performance. Those review judgments are not a universal measurement, but the gap between the marketing claim and reported experience makes ANC the biggest reason to test the headphones yourself if blocking noise is a priority. Default tuning may need adjustment
TechRadar reported that the upper mids and treble lacked presence in its listening and recommended using sound adjustment. Tom’s Guide also noticed treble problems with some genres. These are reviewer impressions, not findings about every listener; still, the trade-off matters if you prefer not to change EQ settings to get the sound you want. TechRadar review Tom’s Guide review
Comfort and warmth depend on fit
TechRadar reported ear-cartilage discomfort during extended wear. What Hi-Fi? found the headphones generally comfortable but noticed some warmth after an hour. Neither account establishes how they will fit every head or ear; try them for a sustained listening session where possible, especially if you wear over-ear headphones for work or travel. TechRadar review What Hi-Fi? review
Fold-flat, not fully compact—and unsuitable for wet use
The headphones fold flat, but What Hi-Fi? notes that they do not fold into a compact bundle. Sennheiser says they are not intended for exposure to water or excessive sweat, so they are not a waterproof or sports-headphone choice. Sennheiser lists the weight at approximately 290 g. Who should consider them?
- A good match: listeners who value long stated battery life, user-replaceable battery guidance, multipoint, USB-C audio, and a choice of wired or wireless listening.
- Consider carefully: buyers who need dependable ANC for flights, commuting, or noisy workspaces; the manufacturer claim and reviewer assessments diverge.
- Try before committing: anyone sensitive to over-ear fit, warmth, or default treble tuning. App EQ may help with sound preferences, but it cannot resolve a comfort issue.
- Look elsewhere: people who need headphones for wet conditions, heavy sweating, or a very compact folded travel package.
