O que a SEGA confirmou para Sakura Wars
Em 24 de abril de 2026, a SEGA anunciou o programa SEGA UNIVERSE, criado para dar nova visibilidade a franquias antigas e ampliar seu entretenimento para além dos jogos. Sakura Wars aparece entre as propriedades que celebram um aniversário em 2026. A empresa descreve a série como uma franquia multimídia, com anime, produções teatrais, dramas em CD, romances e mangás, além dos jogos. Veja o anúncio do SEGA UNIVERSE.
Na programação dedicada à série, a SEGA anunciou uma feira de produtos e eventos Cafe Gratte em locais da animate, previstos para janeiro de 2027. A empresa alerta que o conteúdo pode mudar e que os eventos podem ser adiados ou cancelados. A companhia também anunciou exposições de 30º aniversário em Tóquio, de 23 de outubro a 15 de novembro de 2026, e em Kyoto, de 4 de dezembro de 2026 a 4 de janeiro de 2027. O que foi a revitalização anterior
A SEGA anunciou o projeto de Shin Sakura Wars em 2018 como um novo jogo da série, ambientado na fictícia Tóquio do Taisho 29. Na ocasião, a empresa informou que a franquia havia começado no Sega Saturn em setembro de 1996 e que a série e títulos relacionados tinham ultrapassado 3,8 milhões de remessas domésticas acumuladas até Sakura Wars V. Esse número foi divulgado pela SEGA em 2018; é um dado histórico de remessas, não uma medida atual de vendas. Comunicado da SEGA sobre o projeto.

Em entrevista retrospectiva, o diretor Tetsuya Ohtsubo contou que a equipe discutia formas de revitalizar a franquia desde Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love. Segundo ele, uma votação na SEGA Fes de 2016, na qual a série se destacou em duas categorias, ajudou a mudar a percepção interna e impulsionou o projeto de PS4. Ohtsubo também disse que aquela retomada não se destinava a ficar restrita a um videogame. Essas declarações explicam a iniciativa de 2019; não são uma promessa de um novo projeto hoje.
