Seeed Studio introduced the reTerminal E on September 4, 2025, with two ESP32-S3 ePaper displays: the monochrome E1001 and color E1002. The family has since grown to four models, adding a larger touch-enabled monochrome option and a larger color display. The choice comes down to screen size, color, refresh speed, touch, and how you plan to create and deploy content.

What Seeed launched in 2025

Seeed’s September 4, 2025 announcement introduced the reTerminal E as a ready-to-use ePaper human-machine interface for smart homes, offices, and other shared spaces. The original lineup consisted of the 7.5-inch monochrome E1001 and 7.3-inch full-color E1002, alongside SenseCraft HMI, a no-code platform for designing and deploying display interfaces. Seeed described onboard temperature and humidity sensing, a buzzer, microphone, physical controls, and rechargeable batteries. These are manufacturer descriptions, not results of independent testing. Seeed’s launch announcement

The launch article listed prices of $79 for E1001 and $109 for E1002 at the time of the 2025 announcement. Those are historical launch prices, not verified current prices. Seeed’s launch announcement

How to choose between the four models

E1001: monochrome information that changes quickly

The E1001 is the smaller monochrome model in the original launch lineup. Seeed lists partial refresh and a 2–5 second refresh time, making it the family’s option for text-heavy information that benefits from more frequent updates. Seeed recommends it for lower-cost, text-focused use; current pricing is not established by the launch announcement. Seeed’s current family overview

E1002: color on the original-size display

Choose the E1002 if color matters more than fast refresh. Its 7.3-inch, 800 × 480 panel uses E Ink Spectra 6, but Seeed lists a 15–20 second refresh and no partial refresh. That slower update profile is an important trade-off for dashboards or imagery that change often. Seeed’s current family overview

E1003: larger monochrome screen with touch

The E1003 combines a 10.3-inch, high-resolution monochrome panel with 16 grayscale levels, touch, and partial refresh. Seeed lists a 2–3 second refresh. Touch support in Seeedash requires version 1.1.2 or later, according to the family overview. Seeed’s current family overview

E1004: largest screen for color content

The E1004 is the family’s largest listed model, with a 13.3-inch color Spectra 6 display. Seeed lists a refresh time of about 20 seconds. Its size and color suit image- or photo-frame-style display use better than content that needs frequent updates; that is also Seeed’s stated positioning. Seeed’s current family overview

Shared hardware and physical setup

Seeed lists the same core platform across the four models: ESP32-S3, Wi-Fi 4, Bluetooth 5.0, a temperature and humidity sensor, buzzer, USB-C 5 V/1 A input, and metal enclosure. Details vary by model, so check the guide for the specific unit rather than assuming every accessory or component is identical. Seeed’s current family overview

The E1001 and E1002 guides specify an ESP32-S3 with 8 MB PSRAM and 32 MB flash, microSD support up to 32 GB using FAT32, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, a reserved microphone, and a 2,000 mAh battery. Both guides list a 0–40 °C operating range. The E1001 box contents include a charging/data cable, screws, screwdriver, quick-start guide, and 3D-printed stand; do not assume other models include the same items. E1001 guide E1002 guide
