Yes. Seeed Studio announced official ESPHome support for three distinct products: its SenseCAP Indicator touchscreen IoT platform, the MR24HPC1 24GHz presence sensor, and a mmWave Human Detection Sensor Kit. ESPHome’s maintained documentation lists a SenseCAP Indicator device entry and an MR24HPC1 presence component, making the integration relevant both to users building around a display platform and to those adding radar-based presence sensing.
What Seeed Studio announced
Seeed Studio’s announcement, originally published March 28, 2024 and updated April 1, 2025, covers three products: the SenseCAP Indicator, the MR24HPC1 24GHz mmWave Human Static Presence Sensor, and a mmWave Human Detection Sensor Kit. They are not three names for the same device. The Indicator is a touchscreen development platform; the MR24HPC1 and sensor kit are presence-sensing hardware. Seeed Studio’s announcement and ESPHome’s maintained SenseCAP Indicator device entry and MR24HPC1 component page document the support.
Seeed describes native ESPHome support as a way to reduce the setup burden and simplify Home Assistant integration. In the announcement, author Kezang Loday writes: “It abstracts away the complexities of low-level programming, making it accessible for users with little to no coding experience.” That is Seeed’s characterization of the experience, not a measured setup-time or usability result.

Yes. ESPHome has a maintained device entry for the SenseCAP Indicator, and Seeed links to ESPHome development resources from its product material. The platform combines an ESP32-S3 and an RP2040: according to the ESPHome device documentation, the ESP32-S3 manages the display, touch interface, and communications, while the RP2040 handles sensors, the buzzer, and SD-card functions. Seeed specifies a 4-inch touchscreen and describes Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, Grove expansion, and model-dependent LoRa and environmental sensing. Seeed’s product page lists the available variants and their hardware differences.

The Indicator is not itself the MR24HPC1 radar sensor. Choose it when the project calls for a touchscreen IoT development platform; choose the MR24HPC1 or the sensor kit when the central need is detecting presence. ESPHome supports both device categories, but their roles and required hardware are different.
Which SenseCAP Indicator model has LoRa or environmental sensors?
Seeed lists D1, D1S, D1L, and D1Pro variants. Their included LoRa, CO2, TVOC, and external temperature/humidity hardware differs, so a feature listed for one model should not be assumed to come with the others. Check the selection table for the exact variant on Seeed’s current product page before choosing a device. The page also identifies Grove expansion, which can support peripherals such as an optional AHT20 temperature-and-humidity sensor; that accessory is not established as included with every variant.

Can a Seeed mmWave presence sensor use ESPHome?
Yes. ESPHome’s component catalogue includes the Seeed Studio MR24HPC1 mmWave Motion & Presence component. The Seeed announcement also includes the Human Detection Sensor Kit in its ESPHome support announcement. The MR24HPC1 is a standalone 24GHz sensor, not the Indicator’s display or processor platform.
Seeed lists a 5 m detection range and a 90-degree horizontal beam for the MR24HPC1. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independently verified accuracy or comparative-performance results. The available product documentation does not establish how reliably it performs across different room layouts, mounting positions, or sources of interference.

What to check before setting up an Indicator
Seeed’s getting-started guide states that the Indicator is USB powered at 5V DC, 1A, has no battery, and supports microSD storage up to 32GB. Review the guide and the instructions for your exact model before flashing firmware or connecting hardware: Seeed’s SenseCAP Indicator getting-started guide also warns that flashing Meshtastic firmware on Indicator models that do not support Meshtastic may cause hardware damage.
