To see which iPhone apps have requested location access, open Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services. Tap an app to review or change its permission. The list shows permissions, not necessarily which apps are using your location right now.
How do I see which apps are using my location on iPhone?
- Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services.
- Review the app list and tap an app to see its location permission and, when provided, its explanation for requesting access.
An app appears in this list after it has asked for permission. Its presence—or a permission that allows access—does not prove it is accessing your location at this moment. Apple says a black or white arrow appears in the status bar or Control Center when Location Services is active for an app. Background access can also result in periodic reminders and a map showing locations accessed. Location Services can use available cellular, Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth information to determine your location when an app has permission. Menu labels and available choices may vary by iOS version and app. Apple’s iPhone guide to location controls describes the settings.

In Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services, select the app and set its access to Never. This blocks that app from accessing your location through Location Services.

Other choices depend on the app and iOS version. They can include Ask Next Time, While Using the App, or Always. These options determine whether access is denied, limited to use while the app is open, or allowed in the background; not every app offers every choice. If you are unsure, choose the narrowest permission that still supports the app’s purpose.
Can I share an approximate location instead of my exact location?
Yes, where the app offers the setting. Select the app under Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services, then turn off Precise Location. The app can receive an approximate area instead of your specific position. This may be enough for apps that do not need an exact location. Apple’s location-sharing guide covers this control.

How can I tell if an iPhone app is tracking my location?
Use the Location Services list to check what permission each app has, and look for the arrow indicator when Location Services is active for an app. For a record of recent access, enable App Privacy Report; it does not show activity from before you turned it on.

- Open Settings > Privacy & Security > App Privacy Report.
- Turn on App Privacy Report.
- Allow time for information to accumulate, then return to the report to review app access to privacy-sensitive data, including location.
The report starts collecting only after you enable it. Apple describes a rolling view of the past seven days, including how many times and when apps accessed data. Details may take time to appear. See Apple’s App Privacy Report guidance and its overview of privacy features.

Should I turn off Location Services for the whole iPhone?
The main Location Services switch is at the top of Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services. Turning it off is a broad choice that affects apps and iPhone features. Apple warns that many important features stop working when Location Services is disabled. If your concern is one app, changing that app’s permission is usually the more targeted option. Location Services controls whether an app can access location information from your iPhone. The separate tracking permission concerns tracking activity across other companies’ apps and websites. Changing one does not replace reviewing the other. Apple also advises checking an app’s terms and privacy policy to understand how it handles information it has already received.
