Hover over the battery icon in the Windows 11 taskbar to see whether it shows a time-until-full estimate. If it shows only a percentage, open Settings > System > Power & battery and look below the battery percentage for Time until fully charged. The estimate is not displayed on every device or Windows configuration.
Check the taskbar battery icon first
- Move your mouse pointer over the battery icon in the taskbar.
- Read the tooltip. If Windows provides an estimate, it may show how long remains until the battery is fully charged.
Windows can receive battery charge status and estimated remaining time from the device’s battery subsystem, but that capability does not guarantee a time estimate in every Windows 11 tooltip. Microsoft Q&A users have reported seeing only the percentage. Microsoft’s battery and charging documentation describes the information Windows can receive; it does not promise a particular taskbar display on every device.
If the tooltip shows only a percentage
Check Settings > System > Power & battery. A Microsoft Q&A Independent Advisor suggests looking beneath the battery percentage for Time until fully charged. This is community guidance, not a guarantee that the field will appear on every build or laptop. Microsoft Q&A

If the field is absent too, the available evidence does not identify a universal Windows setting that forces the estimate to appear. A missing time readout alone does not mean the laptop has stopped charging: Windows may show charge percentage without showing estimated time.

What the estimate means
Treat a displayed duration as an estimate, not a countdown guarantee. Microsoft’s battery documentation lists estimated remaining battery time among the information available to Windows, but it does not specify a universal accuracy level or formula for the taskbar’s time-until-full display. Charging behavior can vary with the device and its charging conditions.
When charging stops below 100%
Some PC manufacturers enable Smart charging to help protect battery health by holding the charge below 100%. On supported devices, a heart on the battery icon and the tooltip “Fully Smart charged” indicate that charging is intentionally paused even while the device remains plugged in. If you need to change the charging limit, follow the instructions for your laptop manufacturer and model; Windows does not provide one universal control for every device.

Why a general charging target is not a timing promise
Microsoft’s platform design guidance recommends charging from 5% to 90% within four hours or less under a specific condition: the system is booted and in Modern Standby with the screen off.
