Sean Monahan scored a third-period power-play goal as the Columbus Blue Jackets beat the Buffalo Sabres 6–3 on Thursday, October 1, 2026, according to RotoWire. His goal extended Columbus’s lead to 5–3.
How Monahan’s goal fit the game
RotoWire’s October 2 player update says Monahan scored on the power play in the third period, stretching Columbus’s lead to 5–3. The Blue Jackets went on to win 6–3. The report does not specify the exact time of the goal, the assists, or which players made up the power-play unit.
What the goal says about Monahan’s role
RotoWire reported that Monahan was healthy to begin the campaign after dealing with injuries late in the previous season. That is the outlet’s assessment, not an independent medical update. It also described him as penciled into a top-six role, while noting he could move to the third line if his production declined. That is a projected role, not a confirmed lineup decision, and may change as the season progresses.

Monahan’s 2025–26 production
RotoWire reported that Monahan played 78 games in 2025–26, his second-highest total in the preceding five seasons. He finished that season with 13 goals and 23 assists, according to CBS Sports, which reproduced the report.
