The Saucony Endorphin Speed 5 is a neutral speed trainer built around PWRRUN PB cushioning and a full-length semi-rigid nylon plate. Independent reviewers describe it as responsive and versatile for faster workouts, but those are individual ride impressions—not proof it will feel fast or fit well for every runner. Its strongest case is for runners who want a plated shoe for pace work and are comfortable with a firmer, more structured ride than an unplated daily trainer may provide.
What kind of running shoe is the Endorphin Speed 5?
Saucony positions the Endorphin Speed 5 for faster running, including track sessions and race-day efforts. The manufacturer classifies it as neutral and says its PWRRUN PB foam is paired with a full-length semi-rigid nylon plate between two foam layers. Saucony also describes Speedroll geometry, a lightweight engineered-mesh upper, and a redesigned outsole with expanded heel coverage and a full-length groove. Those are manufacturer descriptions of the construction and intended use, not independent measurements of speed or performance. Saucony’s US men’s product page.
A nylon plate is not the same material as a carbon-fiber plate. The available reviews discuss the Speed 5’s plate as part of its ride, flexibility, or stability, but do not establish that it performs like a carbon-plated racing shoe. Think of the shoe as a plated training option, rather than assuming that the word “plate” guarantees a particular race result.

How does the Endorphin Speed 5 feel on a run?
Independent reviews generally frame the shoe as responsive and usable across more than one kind of faster session. Believe in the Run discusses the PWRRUN PB midsole, winged nylon plate, and Speedroll geometry in its review of the Endorphin Speed 5. iRunFar likewise describes a responsive ride and evaluates the updated winged nylon plate in terms of flexibility and stability. Those assessments reflect each publication’s experience; they are not controlled findings that predict how the shoe will feel for every runner. Read iRunFar’s review.

Tom’s Guide reports that its reviewer ran 60 miles in a test pair and found the shoe versatile, describing its ride and upper from that use. That mileage is the reviewer’s test experience, not a durability benchmark or a guarantee that the shoe suits every training plan. Tom’s Guide’s review.

Tom’s Guide’s reviewer says the shoe fit in their usual size. That is useful as one person’s report, but it cannot establish a universal sizing recommendation across different foot shapes, sock choices, or preferences. If possible, try the shoe on; otherwise, check the retailer’s current size and width options and its return terms before ordering. The cited evidence does not establish fit across a representative range of runners.

What the reviews say about outsole wear
Doctors of Running reports that one reviewer had 45 miles on a pair and was beginning to see wear on exposed PWRRUN PB foam areas of the outsole. That observation describes one shoe at one point in its use. It does not establish a likely lifespan, prove a broad durability problem, or predict when another runner’s pair will wear out. See Doctors of Running’s review.
Price and availability
Tom’s Guide reported 2025 launch prices of $175 in the US and £180 in the UK. Those are launch-price figures reported in 2025, not current prices or a live offer. The available evidence does not confirm today’s price, stock, colorways, regional availability, or retailer return policies. Check a current retailer listing in your country before buying.

Who should consider the Endorphin Speed 5?
- Consider it if you want a neutral trainer designed for faster running and are interested in PWRRUN PB cushioning paired with a nylon plate.
- Try it first if you can if fit or ride feel is a deciding factor; reviewer impressions and one usual-size report cannot predict your experience.
- Look beyond the review evidence if you need a confirmed lifespan estimate or a direct ranking against another shoe. The cited reports do not establish either.
There is no controlled side-by-side comparison here to support a competitor ranking. To compare it with another shoe, assess intended use, plate material and stiffness, cushioning and stack, drop, fit and width, weight for the same size, outsole coverage, and current local price using the manufacturers’ specifications and reviews for both models.
