Kivi is Sarvam’s new voice-driven productivity app for Mac. Its advertised features include dictating text at the cursor and using voice commands to draft, rewrite, or format content across apps. Sarvam says Kivi understands more than 22 Indian languages, including code-switching; those are company claims, not independently verified results. Moneycontrol reported the launch on October 6, 2026, and Sarvam’s official summary says Kivi for Mac is available. Check Sarvam’s current availability before installing, as rollout details can change.
What Kivi does on a Mac
Kivi is designed to let users speak instead of typing, either to enter text where the cursor is placed or to ask for writing changes. Sarvam positions it for work across applications, with examples including WhatsApp, Docs, spreadsheets, Sarvam Code, and Sarvam Work. Moneycontrol’s launch report also describes use with email, messaging platforms, documents, notes, and AI coding tools. These are reported product capabilities; no independent hands-on test established how they behave in each app.
How the two voice modes are reported to work
Dictate: speak text at the cursor
Moneycontrol reports that holding Fn activates Dictate. Kivi is described as turning speech into polished, punctuated, formatted text and inserting it at the current cursor position. This mode is for entering text without composing a separate instruction.
Hey Kivi: request a writing task
The report says pressing Fn+Control activates Hey Kivi. Users can then ask it to create or revise content—for example, draft a follow-up email, shorten selected text, or turn a paragraph into bullets. These examples describe advertised behavior, not verified compatibility or results for every application.

Personalization features announced at launch
Moneycontrol reports that Kivi can remember corrections, accept entries in a custom dictionary, and follow natural-language writing rules such as using British spelling or a preferred sign-off. It also reports spoken shortcuts that expand into longer text. Sarvam’s social post describes similar personalization features. The sources do not establish how these settings are stored, synchronized, or controlled.
What Saaras V4 has to do with Kivi
Kivi is powered by Saaras V4, Sarvam’s speech recognition model. Sarvam’s documentation describes Saaras V4 as an audio encoder paired with an in-house 3-billion-parameter hybrid state-space language-model decoder. The documentation lists five model output modes: transcribe, translate, verbatim, translit, and codemix. These are model specifications; they should not be treated as a guarantee that every mode is exposed in Kivi’s interface.

Sarvam says Saaras V4 supports 22 Indian languages and English, adding Global English alongside Indian English. The company also reports a 2.9% language-identification error rate across the top ten Indian languages and 5.22% across all 22 Indian languages in 2026. Sarvam describes the model as having the lowest word error rate on seven global English datasets and state-of-the-art performance on all 22 Indian languages; its announcement does not provide one aggregate numeric word-error-rate figure. These are vendor-reported model claims, not independent Kivi accuracy tests.
Availability and unanswered setup questions
Sarvam’s Epoch summary states, “Kivi for Mac is now available.” Moneycontrol reported a Windows waitlist, while Sarvam listed Windows, Android, API, and MCP access as next. Availability can change, so check Sarvam’s current product information. The reviewed launch sources do not establish Kivi’s price or subscription structure, minimum macOS version, supported Mac models, microphone or headset requirements, offline behavior, privacy and retention controls, or independent accuracy and latency results. Saaras API documentation does not establish the limits or terms of the Kivi end-user app.
