The SanDisk 4TB Extreme Portable SSD was reported at $229.99 in deal coverage from November 2024 and again in a 2025 Prime Day roundup. That is a historical price, not a verified offer today: check the exact model, seller, stock, and checkout price before buying. SanDisk’s black 4TB model is SDSSDE61-4T00-G25; confirm the listing is for the standard Extreme Portable SSD, not the Extreme PRO.
Is the SanDisk 4TB Extreme Portable SSD available for $229.99 now?
The $229.99 price is documented in historical deal coverage, but no current retailer price or availability is established. Extreme Tech, in an article dated November 21, 2024, reported the drive at $229.99 against an asserted original price of $359.99. Macworld also listed the 4TB model at $229.99 in a 2025 Prime Day roundup. Those reports do not show that the same price is available on October 4, 2026.
Before treating it as a live deal, check the retailer’s current listing and checkout page for the price, stock, seller, and exact 4TB model. A product page or search result can refer to a different capacity or the Extreme PRO line.

Which 4TB model should you look for?
SanDisk lists the black 4TB Extreme Portable SSD as model SDSSDE61-4T00-G25, with other 4TB color variants in the SDSSDE61 family. Match the capacity and model number in the listing rather than relying only on a similar product name. The standard Extreme Portable SSD and the Extreme PRO are separate product lines.

What performance and protection does SanDisk claim?
Advertised transfer speeds
SanDisk advertises sequential speeds of up to 1050MB/s read and 1000MB/s write, based on internal testing. These are maximum manufacturer figures, not guaranteed sustained speeds. Actual results can be lower depending on the host device, interface, usage conditions, and other factors. The available sources do not provide controlled comparative benchmarks, so the advertised figures alone do not establish that this drive is faster or a better value than a competing SSD.
Drop, water, and dust resistance
SanDisk lists up to three-meter drop protection and IP65 water and dust resistance, also based on internal testing. The IP65 disclosure describes a limited water-flow test; SanDisk says the drive must be clean and dry before use. IP65 does not mean waterproof, and neither rating guarantees that data will survive every drop, spill, or exposure.

- Get NVMe solid state performance with up to 1050MB/s read and 1000MB/s write speeds in a portable, high-capacity drive(1) (Based on internal testing; performance may be lower depending on host device & other factors. 1MB=1,000,000 bytes.)
- Up to 3-meter drop protection and IP65 water and dust resistance mean this tough drive can take a beating(3) (Previously rated for 2-meter drop protection and IP55 rating. Now qualified for the higher, stated specs.)
- Use the handy carabiner loop to secure it to your belt loop or backpack for extra peace of mind.
- Help keep private content private with the included password protection featuring 256‐bit AES hardware encryption.(3)
- Easily manage files and automatically free up space with the SanDisk Memory Zone app.(5)
Compatibility, security, and warranty
SanDisk names USB Type-C devices such as phones, laptops, and tablets, and lists operating-system categories including iOS 13+, Android 11+, macOS 11+, and Windows 10+. Compatibility depends on the specific device and setup. The package listing includes a USB-C to USB-C cable and a USB-C to USB-A adapter.

SanDisk also says password protection uses 256-bit AES hardware encryption, but that feature is not compatible with USB Type-C smartphones, including Android devices. USB-C connectivity by itself does not mean smartphone users can use the drive’s hardware password protection.

How to decide whether it is a good buy
Judge the offer against your use, not just the headline price or peak-speed number. Consider capacity per dollar, real-world sustained transfers on your own host, connector compatibility, the protection you need, warranty terms, and whether portable storage is worth the cost compared with a desktop drive. The historical $229.99 reports can serve as a past price reference, but they do not establish a current bargain.
