Nearby police officers heard her calling for help and directed firefighters to her location. San Antonio Fire Department crews rescued her. The other three people from the vehicle were eventually walked up the street. The woman was taken by ambulance to a hospital for evaluation and was expected to be okay; KSAT reported no other injuries. The account does not provide a more specific rescue location or describe the rescue as taking place in a canal. KSAT’s January 22 report identifies the area as near Austin Highway and Corinne Drive, not far from Ira Lee Road.

Does the report verify a canal or a dramatic rescue video?
No. The January report documents a high-water rescue but does not call the location a canal or describe video of the rescue. The available account therefore cannot confirm that a clip described as showing a “San Antonio canal rescue” depicts this incident.

A separate KSAT report describes a different event: on March 22, 2024, a woman was swept into a drainage tunnel near Babcock Road and Leming Drive on the Northwest Side and rescued by firefighters. She was taken to a hospital for evaluation. Police said they had not found another person she mentioned after firefighters searched the tunnel as far as Woodlawn Avenue. Do not conflate that drainage-tunnel incident with the January vehicle and high-water rescue. KSAT’s March 22 report covers the separate incident.
What to do around floodwater
The National Weather Service advises people to avoid floodwater: do not walk or drive through it, and do not go around road barricades. Water levels and flow can change quickly. If moving water traps you, move to the highest place you can reach and call 911 if possible. See the NWS guidance on Turn Around Don’t Drown® and what to do during a flood.
