Samsung announced on April 17, 2024 that it had developed LPDDR5X memory rated at up to 10.7 gigabits per second (Gbps), which the company called the industry’s fastest LPDDR5X at the time. Samsung also reported higher performance, capacity and power efficiency than its previous generation. These are Samsung’s product claims, not independent benchmark results, and the announcement does not establish that 10.7Gbps is the fastest LPDDR5X available in 2026.
What Samsung announced
Samsung’s April 2024 announcement covered a new generation of low-power double data rate memory (LPDDR5X) designed for mobile and other computing platforms. Its headline specification was a maximum data rate of 10.7Gbps. Samsung described that rate as the industry’s highest for LPDDR5X when it announced the development.
The wording matters: “up to 10.7Gbps” is a rated maximum, not a promise that every device using LPDDR5X will run memory at that rate. Actual device configurations and operating rates depend on the platform and its implementation. Samsung’s announcement does not provide independent comparative testing. How the 10.7Gbps claim compares
Samsung compared the new generation with its own previous generation. The figures below are company-reported claims from the April 2024 announcement; they should not be read as independently measured improvements.

These measurements describe different things. Gbps is a data-rate figure; it is not the amount of memory in a device or a direct measure of the speed a user will see in an app. Likewise, the 32GB figure is a maximum per package, not a statement that a phone or laptop will contain 32GB of memory. What platform validation established
In July 2024, Samsung said it had verified a 16GB LPDDR5X package operating at 10.7Gbps on MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400 platform. This is a platform-validation milestone: it shows that Samsung reported validating that memory package and speed with that platform. It does not establish that every Dimensity 9400 device uses the 16GB package or runs memory at 10.7Gbps. Samsung’s July 2024 validation announcement

What it could mean for AI-capable devices
Samsung positioned the memory for AI applications and said LPDDR could expand beyond mobile into areas such as PCs, accelerators, servers and automobiles. Faster memory can support the movement of data between memory and a processor, a relevant part of computing workloads. But the announcement alone does not quantify a specific AI task’s speedup, battery-life change or user-visible benefit in a finished product.

Those outcomes depend on the complete device: its processor, memory configuration, software and workload, among other factors. The announcements do not provide independent benchmarks or name a retail device using this exact 10.7Gbps configuration, so they cannot support a claim about how much faster a particular phone or computer will feel.

Is this a memory upgrade you can buy?
No consumer upgrade path is identified in the cited announcements. Samsung describes LPDDR5X packages integrated into mobile and other computing platforms, not removable RAM modules for users to install. The sources also do not list retail device models confirmed to contain this exact speed grade. Treat this as a component-development and validation story, not a product recommendation or compatibility list.
Samsung separately announced mass production in August 2024 of 12GB and 16GB LPDDR5X packages measuring 0.65mm in height. That is a thin-package manufacturing announcement; it does not establish that those packages are the same 10.7Gbps part. Samsung’s August 2024 thin-package announcement

How to read “fastest” today
Samsung’s superlative belongs to its April 17, 2024 announcement. It is not a verified 2026 industry ranking. Samsung’s current LPDDR5X product overview makes broader family-level claims—up to 1.25 times faster and 25% better power efficiency versus the previous generation—but those statements are not independent rankings and should not be merged with the specific 2024 figures above.
