No Samsung phone should be treated as completely waterproof. In India, Samsung lists several current models with water-resistance ratings, but each rating describes a limited lab test—not a guarantee against water damage. The key difference is whether a model was tested for brief freshwater submersion or only for water spray.
Which Samsung phones in India are water-resistant?
Samsung’s India pages identify the following models and ratings. Availability can vary by location, so check the exact Indian model and current listing on Samsung India’s Galaxy smartphone lineup. These are vendor-published test conditions, not independent measurements of how often phones survive accidents.
| Model | Published rating | Samsung’s stated test and limits |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S26 and S26+ | IP68 | Up to 1.5 metres of freshwater for up to 30 minutes, according to Samsung’s Galaxy S26 series announcement. |
| Galaxy A57 5G | IP68 | Up to 1.5 metres of freshwater for up to 30 minutes. Samsung says beach or pool use is not recommended. See the Galaxy A57 5G product page. |
| Galaxy A37 5G | IP68 | Up to 1.5 metres of freshwater for up to 30 minutes. See the Galaxy A37 5G product page. |
| Galaxy A27 5G | IP64 | Freshwater spray at 10 litres per minute from all angles for five minutes. This is a spray test, not a submersion claim; Samsung says beach or pool use is not recommended. See the Galaxy A27 5G product page. |
| Galaxy Z Fold7 | IP48 | Up to 1.5 metres of freshwater for 30 minutes, plus protection against solid objects greater than 1 millimetre. Samsung says it is not dust- or sand-resistant and does not advise beach or pool use. See Samsung India’s water-resistant phone guidance. |
Samsung’s current lineup also highlights Galaxy Z Fold8, but the water-resistance guidance cited here specifies the Fold7. Do not assume the Fold7’s IP48 rating applies to the Fold8 or another model; check that exact model’s Indian product page for a published rating.
What do IP68, IP64 and IP48 mean in practice?
IP68: brief freshwater submersion in the stated test
For the Galaxy S26 series, A57 5G and A37 5G, Samsung specifies up to 1.5 metres of freshwater for up to 30 minutes. The wording matters: it describes controlled test limits, not permission to deliberately submerge the phone or assurance that it will remain undamaged in every accident.

IP64: spray protection, not a dunk test
Samsung’s A27 5G description specifies a five-minute freshwater spray test at 10 litres per minute from all angles. It does not state a submersion test, so do not read IP64 as equivalent to the IP68 models’ stated immersion conditions.
IP48: water resistance with a specific solids caveat
Samsung describes the Z Fold7’s water test as submersion in up to 1.5 metres of freshwater for 30 minutes, and its solids protection as covering objects greater than 1 millimetre. Samsung explicitly says the Fold7 is not dust- or sand-resistant; the rating is not a promise of protection from fine particles.

Can you use a Samsung phone in a pool, at the beach or underwater?
Do not treat an IP rating as clearance for swimming or underwater photography. Samsung’s A57 5G and A27 5G pages do not recommend beach or pool use, and its Fold7 guidance also advises against those settings. Salt water, pool water and other conditions are not the freshwater tests described above.
For underwater use, Samsung says Galaxy smartphones need to be placed in a waterproof underwater housing. Check that a housing is explicitly compatible with the exact phone model before using it.

How durable is water resistance over time?
Samsung’s official product guidance warns: “Water and dust resistance of the device is not permanent and may diminish over time due to normal wear and tear.” A published rating therefore cannot tell you the condition of an individual phone or establish its real-world chance of surviving a spill. Samsung does not publish a comparative water-damage rate for these models in the cited material.
How to choose among these Samsung models
- For the strongest stated water test among these listed models: the IP68 models have Samsung’s specified freshwater submersion condition. It remains a bounded lab test, not a guarantee.
- If considering the Galaxy A27 5G: understand that its stated IP64 test is water spray, not submersion.
- If considering the Galaxy Z Fold7: account for the IP48 rating’s greater-than-1-millimetre solids protection and Samsung’s explicit dust and sand caveat.
- For any other model, including Galaxy Z Fold8: verify the rating on that exact model’s Indian product page rather than inferring it from the product family or lineup.
The available Samsung material establishes water-test conditions, not a price ranking, comparative performance or camera advantage. Choose those factors from the exact current Indian listings separately; the rating alone cannot determine which phone is the better overall fit.
