The tune most owners notice is the cycle-completion melody: it lets you know the wash has finished. It is a notification, not a fault signal. Samsung washers can also make separate sounds when powering on or off, when buttons are pressed, and—on some AddWash models—when AddWash alerts occur. Whether you can mute or adjust any of them depends on your washer’s model, control panel, and market.

What does the Samsung washer tune mean?

If the melody plays at the end of a wash, it is the cycle-completion notification. Samsung describes it as an alarm sound that signals the end of a cycle. Its presence alone does not indicate that the washer is malfunctioning.

There is no documented universal name, composer, or single tune that applies to every Samsung washing machine. Samsung’s guidance describes the sounds and controls, but does not establish one melody used across all models.

Which sounds can a Samsung washer make?

“The tune” may refer to several different sounds. Samsung’s guidance distinguishes among:

  • Cycle-completion melody: plays when a wash cycle ends.
  • Power-on and power-off sounds: indicate that the washer has been switched on or off.
  • Button or touch tones: sound when controls are used.
  • AddWash alert: available on applicable AddWash models.

These sounds may have separate controls. Turning off the end-of-cycle melody does not necessarily mute button tones or every other operational sound.

How to turn off or adjust the melody

Start with the exact model number and its user manual. Samsung says sound adjustment is available only on select models. Its US support guidance says that if the manual does not explain how to toggle sounds, the model does not have that feature. Regional guidance also warns that controls differ by market, so treat the examples below as model-specific possibilities, not a universal button sequence.

Check the control panel

Depending on the washer, the sound control may be labeled Alarm Off, Super Speed, or Extra Rinse. On some panels, sound is a secondary function, so Samsung says to hold the relevant button for three seconds. Other panels may use a bell or crossed-out speaker icon, or require two buttons to be held together. Use the combination only if it matches the instructions for your model and region.

Samsung Australia also documents a route for its Simple UX panel: hold the hand icon, select Alarm with the navigation dial, then toggle the setting. The Australian guidance applies to Australian products; do not assume the same menu or controls appear on other versions.

Look in Settings on a screen-based model

On screen-equipped Bespoke Combo models, Samsung US says sound options may be available under Settings. Depending on the model, these can include Sound mode, Sound theme, or Volume. The available options are not guaranteed to be identical on every screen-based washer.

Check SmartThings if your model supports it

Some newer SmartThings-compatible washers may show a Sounds switch, a volume slider, or an end-of-cycle alarm setting in the app. Compatibility with SmartThings does not guarantee that sound controls will appear there. Check the washer’s panel and manual as well.

What changes when you disable the alarm?

The result depends on the model and the setting you switch off. Samsung Australia says disabling the function on the models covered by its guidance silences the cycle-completion melody, power-off beep, and AddWash alarm on AddWash models. Samsung’s other guidance makes clear that button tones or other operational sounds may remain active. Check the description for your model’s setting to see which sounds it affects.

Where to verify your washer’s settings

  1. Find the full model number. Check the washer’s label or the model information shown in its documentation.
  2. Open the manual for that exact model. Look for sound, alarm, melody, or chime settings; Samsung’s support guidance links feature availability to the model manual.
  3. Match the manual to your market and panel. Confirm that its button labels, icons, or menu names match your washer.
  4. Use only the documented control. If the manual does not describe a sound toggle, Samsung says the model does not offer that feature.

For current guidance, see Samsung US Support’s instructions for adjusting washer and dryer alarm sounds, Samsung Australia’s end-of-cycle melody guidance, and Samsung UK’s washer cycles and program settings guide, updated 6 July 2026. The regional pages cover their respective markets, and exact settings may vary by model and software.
