For most Samsung washers, the closest thing to a general reset is to disconnect power for about 1–5 minutes, then restore it. Samsung U.S. says, “There really isn’t a way to reset the washing machine” as a universal procedure. A power cycle may clear a glitch, but it does not repair the cause of a recurring error. Exact controls and any menu labeled “Factory Reset” depend on the model.
How to power-cycle a Samsung washer
Samsung’s general U.S. guidance recommends this simple power cycle when a reset-like restart is appropriate:
- Unplug the washer, or switch off power at its circuit breaker.
- Wait about 1–5 minutes.
- Restore power and check whether the original symptom remains.
This may resolve a problem in rare instances. If the symptom persists, troubleshoot the underlying issue rather than repeating the power cycle as a repair. See Samsung’s washer reset guidance.
What to do if an error code returns
Before disconnecting power, write down or photograph any displayed error code. The code can help identify the fault; clearing it does not fix the cause. Samsung gives 4E/4C, a water-fill problem, as an example of a code that may return if the water-supply issue remains.

- Use the code to find the relevant troubleshooting instructions or support for your exact model.
- If the code returns, do not keep clearing it. Samsung warns that repeated resets can erase error-code history that may help a technician diagnose the problem.
- Arrange service if troubleshooting indicates a repair is needed; a reset itself is not a repair procedure.

Power cycle, Wi-Fi reset, calibration, or factory reset?
These labels describe different functions. A Wi-Fi reset or calibration is not a general factory reset, and the relevant options are not available on every washer.

How to reset Wi-Fi on a compatible Samsung washer
Samsung’s U.S. instructions give this sequence for Wi-Fi-capable models:

- Hold Smart Control until “AP” appears, about 3 seconds.
- Hold Temp until “OK” appears, about 7 seconds.
- Turn off the washer.
This refreshes network information, not the washer’s general settings or a fault condition. Button labels or availability may vary, so check the manual for your model before using the sequence.

When and how to calibrate
Calibration concerns the washer’s weight detection. Samsung says the drum must be empty and that the procedure varies: some models require the washer to be on, others off, and some have no Calibration mode. A commonly cited Temp + Delay End combination is not universal. Use the model’s manual for the correct controls and sequence; Samsung discusses calibration in its washer installation guidance and spins-poorly troubleshooting.

At least one Samsung model specification, for the WV60A9900AV, lists “Factory Reset” among its washing options. That is evidence of a model-specific option, not a reset procedure shared across Samsung washers. Do not assume a menu path or button combination from another model applies to yours.

- If your Samsung washer is leaking when you use it again after cleaning the original filter with a lock, consider replacing this non lock filter! Avoiding flooding in your home.
Find the full model code on the washer’s label, then use Samsung’s model support page to locate the matching manual. Follow its instructions for any factory-reset control. If the manual does not describe one, use the general power-cycle guidance instead of trying an unverified button sequence.
